Damn, youve got me in fear now. Ive got a list of places I want to visit but looking at this Im sure some will have this gay billing thing going on. I wonder if it will even do any good to ask since they can just change if they want.
Any good apartments close to the strip you would reccomend that arent shady bastards? 2 bdrm, less than 1000 a month?
Edit: Not meaning to thread jack, please pm me if you do know of any.
Thanks

There are quite a few apartment communites that are mastered metered, meaning they run off one meter. They usually do a flat rate fee for utilities.....so like 900.00 month + 25.00 for water, sewer and water.
If they are not..........KEEP AWAY......this means they are using the RATIO UTILTY BILLING METHOD.
Also, if you are real concerned......you can do a 3 or 6 month lease. They are required to give tenants a 90 days notice before implementing the RUBS billing method.
Durango Canyon Apts is only like 10 minutes from the strip and they have a flat rate for utilities. I just moved from there..........its a great place. I know they have some 2 bedroom one bathroom units for around $900.00 or $950.00

So its only 1 of those 2 ways, like theres not where you get billed by the utility company or whatever? Or are they all "master metered" and you either get screwed or flat fee?

You can find an apartment that has sub metering. They have meters that measure the hot water running from your apt and there is still a formula and you will still pay more than your actual water consumption, but its better than the apartments on master meters who are using the RUBS billing.
And, there are apartments that have individual meters and you pay the utility companies directly, just like houses do. You will find those in the newer devolpments.

Just curious, why did you move? How was the area? Did you feel safe in that area?

I moved becuase I had another child, so I needed to move to a 3 bedroom. They had three bedrooms, but I also wanted to be closer to my husbands job. It was also $30.00 cheaper,
than the three bedrooms and the apt community I was at. It offered the same amenties and
the same lush landscape......I obviously did not do my homework. previous to moving to Las Vegas
I actually managed a few apt communites and ran 2 condo conversions, one being a master meter property in Las Vegas. I never once heard of this billing practice being used. Now, I hear it all the time!

I know this is a old threat but this is happening to me right now , I just signed a new lease and they told me I would have to pay for water and garbage but when my bill came I am being charged for water, sewer, gas and processing fee , which I am getting screwed all the way around . I been at my apartment for four years and they changed managers 5 times and I feel stupid that i signed a one year lease . I also read that if I am late on my utilties they will take it out of my rent and then will evict me . Where can I go to get help in this matter ?
