I had a great job offer out here, a lot more $$$ than I was making in Michigan and it was time to leave my last job. I had friends back home, but I wanted to move out here and meet some new people, have some fun.

I am defiantly not into the "club scene / bar scene" but I defiantly enjoy my vices. This town has been absolutely horrible for me. I gamble all the time, and not in a "Good" way. Its a very solitary thing and it keeps me from making friends. There is NO culture here at all. Even the art fair in downtown on Friday they sell alcohol. Everyone is here for their own agenda, and very wary of outsiders. This town can DESTROY you if you are weak willed, and I am finding out how weak willed I am.

Overall, its just different from the Midwest I am used to. Go figure, the happiest I have been has been while I am dating a girl from Iowa. There is just a different (westcoast?) mindset here.

Its not all bad, there is some stuff I like here, and the all night parties can be fun. Its more an attitude and a mindset, and what you want out of your life.

Call it culture shock, call it weak willed, just know your limitations and whats truly important. The first time you lose the rent on the blackjack table is a serious wake up call, hopefully one you will never have to get.

So, Yeti, are you staying?

We had a couple outings that were wake-up calls too. Not anything huge in the whole realm of what it could be, but huge to me. I am very frugal so I don't like that and we got it out of our systems, had some fun and now we are just living life. It can be easy to get caught up in it all.

Knowing your limits and sticking to them are two different stories-anywhere really, but with unlimited time to play you must be extra smart here.
