New Homes?
Are they still building New Homes? I heard that people have stopped pulling permits for new homes. It would make sense, with the credit crisis and the mortgage crisis, that they have stopped pulling them. With new people still moving here and no new homes being built, maybe we will start to see a turn around soon.

They are still building homes... I bought a new home in Aliante. If you go to any of the major builders' websites, you will see they stil have multiple communities in the valley.

Maybe I worded it wrong.
What I was saying is that there are new homes for sale but didn't most of those have permits pulled a while ago? Are people still pulling "new permits" to start new projects or are they just wrapping up old projects? Thanks for replying everyone.

My home was not a spec... permits were pulled when I signed the contract. There were 3 other homes built at the same time in my community; all were not excavated until sales contracts were signed. There will always be people who are willing to pay a bit more to have the house just the way they like it... For me, it was worth the extra $$ to have the house the way I wanted it & move-in ready.

For over 20 years they were building and selling well over 2,000 homes per month. Last month it was only about 850. But I believe that was up from previous months. Some are predicting the bottom has been reached, others don't think so, and nobody knows. But they say the builders can't go any lower on prices.

Buzz...I was wondering what the monthly change in population is now. It's been awhile, but when it was last posted (before the economy bottomed out) wasn't it like 6,000 new residents each month coming in...and 3,000 going out? I'm wondering what this economy has done to those figures. I looked on the LVCA site...but it was not clear.
Thx.

Clark County estimates that the population is down about 10,000 from July 2007 to July 2008. The use an algorithm based on how many homes are vacant.
I don't really believe it is down but that is close enough. Just running along around flat.
Note that we lost a whole lot of construction jobs a year ago and a lot of those folks had no real choice but to move on.

Thanks for the info guys. So it sounds like the new home permits are still being pulled but just a lot less of them. Are their any figures that show we are approaching the bottom?
