If you have a story I want to hear it
As i'm planning a move to vegas is early spring can some of you post some of your horror heat stories. I have lived in the Northeast, the south, the midwest, but never in the desert. How hot can it get? Feel free to start with "It gets so hot ___________________.
I figure if I can deal with a Maine winter I can survive a Las vegas summer..

I was stationed out there in the late 70's and recall sitting up on the fighters out on the flightline and just about frying my @ss off. We'd usually get those things done early and stay inside during the afternoon heat but not always. But then again I remember in Jan of 79 (?) when they got 7 inches of snow and things came to a halt for a while. Beautiful place to live.

You know that heat that comes out of the oven and hits you in the face when you first open the oven door to check on something you're baking?

It's so hot...I called the operator for time and temperature and she said 215 and 112...I had to ask her which was which. Ba dump dum.
First of all, if you can survive the heat and humidity in the south, and the cold in Maine, you can take 110º-112º with no humidity. 85º and 85% humidity are a lot worse than 100º and 8% humidity. In fact 100º and no humidity is kind of pleasant. Unless you plan to work outside you won't be in it much anyway. A lot of people work outside in the summer, or are outside because they want to be, and they're OK, but they prepare for it. I won't lie...it's not comfortable...but it's a lot more comfortable than Washington, DC, or almost anywhere south of Virginia, in the summer. I don't know the number of homes that have pools here, but I've heard it's over 60%, and all apartments have them. All homes and businesses have A/C. So do the cars. Don't let anyone make more out of it than it is. It isn't all that bad. Until I had health problems to prevent me from running I used to take my dogs jogging in the middle of the day in the summer, and none of us complained. In fact we all three looked forward to it. There is a slight risk if your car should break down out in the desert away from town, but mostly all you need to do is remember to take water. I, however, have never practiced what I preach and have taken off many times for LA, or northern Nevada, without a drop of water to drink. On the other hand, I would never go to Death Valley in the summer time, except I've passed through there on the way to Mammoth Lakes, CA, before. By the way, if you should break down out in the desert, stay with the car and out of the direct sun...and drink all your water without trying to ration it.

When it's windy we refer to it as the hair dryer effect. Bad weather is wind. If it rains we celebrate.

In July and August the business I work for puts foam inserts over our front door handles so that people will not burn their hands and try to sue us.
Before I wised up and bought a solar screen for my windshield, I used carry white towels in my car and toss them over my steering wheel and stick shift while my car was parked out in the sun all day. Got tired of frying my hands to get home from work.
Yes, it gets hot, but you WILL get use to it. What other choice will you have but to deal with it?
Never leave a can of spray paint in the back of your car during the summer. A Friend of mine learned that the hard way. No joke.

Came here in August from Michigan.
I would rather be filling in the blank for It gets so hot that_________
then, It gets so cold that__________.
It really did not feel like what I would think 110 would feel like at all. Then again, I was used to humidity. I liked the hundred degree days here much more than the 90 degree days in MI.
Just like you acclimate to bundling up and clearing off your car, carrying glove, scrapers and other winter apparatus, you do that for heat. You carry water, sun shields and you learn to be very careful opening doors and touching metal things. I love it!
