When we received our notice form DMV for registration renewal, we paid it. We then received the little sticker to place on our license plate.

1. We received no notice to have our car inspected. Is an annual inspection required?

2. We received no notice to have a smog check. Is a smog check required for a 2007 auto?

3. They give you 2 license plates. We see many vehicles only displaying 1 plate on the rear. Are both plates required to be displayed?

I searched old threads and found none. Thank you for keeping us legal.

This is how I understand it:

1. No. Nevada vehicle inspections are only VIN verifications when a vehicle is registered for the first time in the state. A DMV agent has to physically verify the VIN on the vehicle.

2. There is a rule that exempts a brand new vehicle from requiring an emissions inspection if it's in either the first or second year of registration. Does your 2007 fall under that rule? Otherwise, you might be garaged in an area of Clark (or Washoe) county that doesn't require a smog check.

3. NV law requires both front and rear plates to be displayed with the exception of a vehicle that 1) was not designed for a front plate and 2) the manufacturer did not provide an add-on bracket or other means of displaying the front plate.

That second rule is being interpreted pretty loosely by some. I think that's why you're seeing more vehicles than you figure that are going without a front plate.

Also, yes, you are given only one tab to be located on the rear plate.

edit: *bonks self on side of head* Sure your 2007 vehicle is exempt because it does fall under the "new car rule."

About 3 years ago I was given a ticket for not displaying my front plate. (I was getting a speeding ticket at the time..) I did not have a bracket on the front. I had to have one installed, go show it to the police dept. and the citation for that went away. Not so lucky on the speeding ticket.

Yeah if you needed a smog it would say on your renewal paper. If you still got that paper look where it says smog emissions then it'll say next to it "not required." I run with always 1 plate too friggin lazy to put the front one on and I don't even know where it is, lol! Then when I turn in my plates when I get a different car I usually only turn in 1 and they still give me credit.
