How is living in Las Vegas
I am a 22 year old girl moving out for vegas from Ft. Myers florida in Two month. I am currently going to school online for wedding and event planning. I have been looking into being an assistant wedding planner at one of the hotels or resorts in the las Vegas strip. My question is how is it to live in Vages and is it over rated? I would be leaving behind my boyfriend of 3 1/2 years even though the relationship has been rocky i just don't want to have any regets in going or in not going.

It's a city, like any other. More "adult" stores and casinos around, but other than that, it's pretty much like any other medium size city.
I can't answer about it being overrated, because I don't know what you've heard.
As for finding a job on the strip, my understanding is that in this town, it's not what you know, but who you know. I haven't job-hunted here, but that's the running theme when people ask about resort jobs.
Good luck.

Its a great city, you will meet lots of wonderful people from all the world and the USA. However unless you have plenty of funds in the bank I would really advise you to perhaps come here first and secure a job before moving here. Jobs here in Vegas in general take time to get, however now in this economy its especially tough. I lived in Vegas for 9 months and I saw the writing on the wall that there was a layoff coming and decided to look for extra work 6 months ago and couldnt find anything! Im a college grad with many years experience in my field of sales and no'one is hiring now! After 3 months of searching hi and low and no responses --at a last resort prior to layoff, I moved back here to NY for a while increase my education. Please have a plan before you make the jump or you WILL have regrets otherwise. I must ad that your chosen field should be recession proof but please for your own sake make the due diligence. I was in hospitality also and never expected to be hit this hard due to the recession in Vegas.

Same thing for me. We are throwing in the towel after 6 months. I am working 2 jobs just to barely make the rent payment! We were making more money back in Detroit! Even so, I refuse to discourage anyone from making a move here, you never know what will happen. Could be great, could be less so....

Could you tell us about your rental? Might be a good guideline for us to find something cheaper.

What do you mean by that? The amount it costs? The reason I ask is that I also rent in the same apt. complex the poster your asking does.
I think the rent is ok, but we rent 2BR/2BA. Uppers. About 1140 sq ft. I think the complex is nice, the location is good, mgmt has been decent but I have had no real issues so I don't know how they would be in the case of a problem.
You can definitely get a cheaper place. You get what you pay for, basically.
Good luck in your hunt.

It's Tough!
Moved here in Sept., struggling, but who isn't? Found a pt seasonal job for now. Was lucky to find that! Definitely a good idea to have a job before moving here. And agree. It's WHO you know.

Hang in there Wendy. As I have said on other threads, my wife worked from Sep last year to Feb for Power Staffing as a Temp worker before landing what she wanted.
She worked from filing for city of North Las Vegas to answering phones for the famous Judge Glass. She is now with Clark County and satisfied. In fact, she interviews Friday for another position with a $5,000 per year bump.
It seems imperative to have Nevada drivers license, auto registration and permenant address and telephone before they will take you serious. We think the fact that she was willing to work Temp and had some local people they could call for references really helped too.
Good Luck

How much? If the OP is having a difficult time paying 1200 (for example); then maybe some of us newcomers should try to get a more affordable place.
Your 2/2 1140 SF in a good location sounds pretty good. I would hate to be pissing away 13-1500 per month on housing, when I've been to plaes, where I can live like a king, for 700 per month--for everything, including Dental.
