So unless I missed a chapter in biology class somewhere, wouldn't that make someone drink more water (as in the salt dehydrating you so that you drink more?) If that's the case, I might be better off going back to bottles/jugs.

I'm curious since it seems that every time I am out in Vegas, I'm drinking tons and tons of water, at least the first few days.. I just figured it was the climate change, but this even happens in the winter..
No, I'm saying that a water softener that uses salt puts salt in the water. If it uses Potassium it puts potassium in the water. Either one, I can't have. So the RO (Reverse Osmosis) filter takes it out. You should have both in Las Vegas as the water is pretty hard. What you're tasting are all those minerals. That and all the dam* chlorine they put in it. I don't know if salty water makes you drink more. I doubt if softened water is THAT salty. But you need to drink a lot in hot weather anyway unless you're on diuretics. If you are in a humid climate you might be losing more water (and salt) through sweat than you do here. At least it feels like it. I think the jury is out on that one. Here you may be sweating but most of us believe it drys so fast you don't notice. Still, you may not sweat as much in the desert. I'll leave that up to someone smarter than me to decide.

I think the figure is 80% to 90% of our water in the Las Vegas Valley comes from Lake Mead which is on the Colorado River. That's why we pray for snow in the Rocky Mountains which supplies all of our water in Lake Mead. The reason Lake Mead is down is that there has been a drought in Colorado for several years. We need about seven years of good snow pack to bring the Lake back up to a good level. The rest of our water comes from wells. Remember in the song? The desert is an ocean with it's life underground? The deserts of the southwest used to be a vast ocean, and then the water went underground. Dig deep enough almost anywhere in the desert and you'll hit water.

I drink bottled or purified that I go and fill myself. I will use tap water for cooking since the heat will destroy that nasty chlorine smell and taste.

Been here about 5 months and I've been drinking bottled water. The water here smells like chlorine... that can't be safe. lol My co-worker says she has to do thousands of dollars worth of dental work because of the water here.

But I see all of these commercials about how our tap water is soooo good. I haven't been able to get tap water past my nose since about 1990.

Is the water good? I don't mean safe, I mean good?
No. It isn't good.
No. I don't drink it. I use one of those gallon Britta thingies.

Drink Lexusman bottled water, and you too can live the Vegas fantasy life! You'll eat out at the fanciest restaurants, see all of best shows, and dance at all of the most exclusive clubs, every night! And afterwards, you'll take those smoking hot triplets for hours of highly proficient tantric sex. Yes, you too can be a Lexusman!

Ahem...

I can't afford the bottled stuff, so I drink tap. If you use Crystal Light type mixes, I use WalMart's, it tastes good.

Isn't that the same stuff that Rev. Jim Jones was pushing in Guyana (or wherever it was)?
