New McDonalds on the Strip

I remember when the old one next to it opened. The Las Vegas style neon sign was a big hit. They invited dignitaries to a big grand opening party and had it catered. Instead of Micky D's hamburgers they served steak.

Carol and I saw this McDonald's in Rome last month and had to stop in. It's the nicest McDonald's I've ever seen. This is the entrance at street level. It is two stories. In every block in Rome there must be at least three coffee/pastry/pasta/gelato shops. Even this McDonald's has those things.

I think it is interesting that the newer McDonald's are going for a more upscale look. I also read that they are catering more to certain demographics in certain areas. For example, McDonald's in Chinatown, USA will be redesigned with interiors that are more Asian in design, though the menu will be the same.

That Roman McDonald's is a great place! It was the only public restroom I would ever enter when I lived in Rome. I was really shocked the first time I walked in there, and for some reason I got excited about the salad bar in the middle even though at that time I hated salads.
I do think the food tastes the same as here though, and the employees were just as dumb and cocky as the ones in my Vegas neighborhood. When I ordered a plain cheeseburger, the guy just gave me a bun.  |
