I guess Desert Shores isn't really part of Summerlin either but it feels like it. I sure wish I had bought a house on one of the lakes when it opened. Of course back then I hated it there just because I was one of many who didn't think out of town developers should be putting lakes in our desert. Now I drive through there all the time just to take the scenic route.

I'd also like to point out that the schools in the Centennial Hills area, for the most part, are on par with just about every "prestigious" public school in the valley. Very quiet, family friendly, suburban area.
I don't know that it is, but Peccole is very nice and pretty affordable these days as well. Of course I would probably lump Peccole as well as The Lakes in with Summerlin generally anyways even though it may technically not be as the demographic is just much too similar.

Your right about the new shopping centers there, but I was comparing it to where I live (buffalo/lake mead). I can pretty much walk to the store, where if you live in Horse/Jones, its still a car ride away.

I concur as that's where I live. The nearest store of any kind is a 10-minute drive.

i have at least 5 dunkin donuts (which includes the first one in town) within a 2 mile drive...a corner store with (usually, but not right now) the cheapest gas in town, a 5 minute walk away, and so much more is within 3.5 miles including 2 malls....of course its not the "great" NW...but South Strip...

When buying a property I look at how close commercial property is. I don't want any too close to my investment. Too much traffic and exhaust fumes is bad for resale, IMHO. We were kind of upset at our last home when they put a McDonald's three blocks away. If this were a walking town where people used public transportation such as Boston or New York, I might want a store and a pizza parlor close by. But western towns are spread out and meant for private transportation, so anyone expecting to live here without a car is gonna have a problem. Get a horse!

Mine is 17 but it's bogus because most of the nearby businesses that they counted are in home businesses like internet mail order, etc. One is a lady that teaches etiquette. Using their method I should get a '0' out of 100. It's slightly over a mile to any real business and that's the way I like it. Most people should be able to walk a mile. Of course, now that I'm messed up I don't do that very often anymore. Ha. But when we first moved in here we walked to Starbucks, or the park, all the time.
It is interesting the kind of businesses you probably never knew about that you come up with on that site though.

i feel the same way, mine is a 15... i would prefer a 0. lower score = less smog, more green or residential, and the biggie... less traffic......

I lived in a "0" in Arizona. Best views. 6 miles to the IGA. A few illegals looking for "agua."
