I have lived here in LV for 8 years now. I moved here from SoCal. Orange County became to snobbish and cold fo rme so I came where people are friendlier and less "catty". I love LV and the weather. The schools everywhere are getting bad, but there are good schools with the bad anywhere you live. I work for both CCSD and a private school here and I enjoy both. LV has grown by leaps and bounds since I moved here and most of my neighbors are the same ones I had when we moved in. Some day I will have to move back to SoCal to care for my parents but I will enjoy LV while I can. I attended UNLV and had the best professors after having some really lousy ones in CA. I got my MA here and I feel that it is equal or better than I could have gotten somewhere else. It is what you make of it for yourself living in LV.

Yea, I have a wife and 1 baby. We would just like to move somewhere ideally that isn't too far from So.Cal where most of our family are at. But somewhere that has a lower cost of living than CA for the most part. I know it's not dirt rotten cheap anywhere else, but CA has always been notorious for it's high cost of living all around in comparison to 99% of other states. Like I said before, I don't condemn places because 1 person has a negative opinion or bad experience, but I like to hear multiple other voices in regards of a particular area that is also everyone elses day to day experience.

But in reality, Vegas has so much offer, besides everyone elses mentality which consists of "THE STRIP DUDE!"

You have

1. Every single food , restaurant and buffet known to man to eat at anytime your glutton heart desires.

2. Mt.Charleston to go the snow or to the woods alone.

3. Red Rock National Park.

4. Valley of fire.

5. Lake Mead, fishing, boating whatever.

6. Miles upon miles of open land to go offroading, dirt bikes, quads, dune buggys.

7. Hoover Dam.

8. Any entertainment known to man.

9. Tons of places to go shopping at.

10. Million miles of hiking and camping

11. Colorado river.

12. EVERYTHING KNOWN TO MAN IS IN VEGAS!

Yes MomMom, but here is where we need to recommend a reality check. Remember we spoke about all those people who move to LV, and then move out a year later, blaming the city? I don't mean to rain on MtnDude's parade, nor do I mean to degrade LV, but the list only includes positives. To truly evaluate a living place (ANY living place) one must really consider both positives and negatives. It is the ones that only see the positives that move out a year later complaining that LV was not it was all they expected it to be.

He's coming from So. Cali, JFK...Las Vegas will truly be the oasis in the desert for him...LOL!!!

After spending a lot of time in So Cali, believe me, I know, everything he's got there (negatives) he'll have to a lesser degree here, but LV comes complete with all the bells and whistles (the positives)

true, but the post wasn't an evaluation of LV, but a list of what MtnDude feels this town offers.

LVs negatives aren't mysteries...and for the most part they aren't exclusive to vegas (i will give you that there are some unique problems here). but the key is whether an individual finds the offerings to outweigh the negatives (kinda the key to living anywhere really).
