Desirable Zip Codes in LV Area
Hi Las Vegans! I will be moving out there shortly and will be working at the Venetian. What areas (zip codes) are the most desirable, but are less than a half hour commute to the Strip? I want to rent a townhouse or condo initially (perferably from a private owner as opposed to a rental community). FYI - I am a 50 year old, white female, recently divorced, with no children and two cats. Your suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply airics! Actually I've been living in Duluth GA for a year now (Atlanta area). I lived in South Florida and Central Florida for the 27 years prior to moving to Atlanta, but I'm from Ohio originally. I've been to Vegas many times and have a dear friend in Phoenix, so I know what the desert SW is all about.
I don't actually have the job at the Venetian yet, but it looks very likely that I will get it. I don't want to jinx it though, so please don't be offended if I tell you I'd rather not say right now!
Now, about those zip codes??????

New Question
Thanks again! So, is a N/S commute or an E/W commute generally worse? I know in So Fla, the E/W commute was always a nightmare, whereas a N/S commute was usually fine. Just curious if you have traffic patterns like that in LV.

i would say that north/south is generally pretty bad, northbound isn't half as bad as southbound especially in the afternoon/night, I-15 from Cheyenne to Russell is pretty much bumper-to-bumper southbound from 2 PM-7 PM, once they finish construction and stop closing lanes, it'll get better...but i can't think of an easy way to get from east to west, 95 has been such a breeze since they completed it, but it still backs up downtown, its not entirely convenient however to go from the northwest to the southeast via 95, its entirely difficult south of russell to even find a street that crosses over i-15 from east to west because of the freeway, only St. Rose, Windmill/Blue Diamond, 215, and Warm Springs cross, but Warm Springs and St. Rose both end anyway, so they doesn't really help...if you're looking for an easy east/west commute, i guess Desert Inn Road would be a good option if you live near Desert Inn, but i believe that backs up in the afternoon too, West Charleston and West Sahara also get pretty bad, especially on Sahara near Nevada Power because of all the people waiting to pay their bills...

An active realtor on here, Olecapt, has a crime incident map available. You can bring it up at www.donohue.team.com/Crime/index.html. It is broken down into green areas, next yellow, followed by orange and red for the highest crime areas. From any of those areas you chose, you can then get a pretty good compute of your drive to the Venetian.
If you're originally from Ohio, I'm still in Ohio waiting for my house to sell so I can relocate there. From my years of looking at neighborhoods and areas out there and since I will be buying a house, I tend to prefer the northwest and southeast. That being said, whichever of those I chose, it will not be one of the denser areas where the houses sit only about 10 feet from the street and have only 5 feet between them. Download the map and then drive the good areas and see what is comfortable for you.
