The most dangerous area in Las Vegas is not black. Mostly white, some hispanic and a few blacks. I would not walk around in any lower socio-economic class neighborhood without care. That would go for certain parts of NLV and of Henderson and of Las Vegas.
I would think that I would just as soon walk around in the northern half of NLV as I would in GV or Summerlin. And none of the three are actually anywhere near as safe as the neighborhood I live in.
If one wishes to live close to Nellis a close in neighborhood has been proposed that has some good qualities. I would stick with my original recommendation which is basically the eastern end of the north part of NLV. But if you wanted to be closer and were willing to put up with a mildly wilder neighborhood the one suggested is likely an area where one could live happily.

Thank You Olecapt, Can you be a little more specific as to the "eastern end of the north part of NLV" I am not knowledgeable of the area around base and would help to have a road or highway to gauge by on a map. What part of the base is considered north. Is it areas along highway 15 north of E.Craig Rd?

Here is a map. The shaded areas shows you some nice areas of NLV. The part closest to Nellis would be the hunting zone.

Yep, the most dangerous part of Henderson is downtown which is majority white, then Hispanic. They are mainly rednecks that live down there.

I thought the planes were interesting too. I sleep with a loud fan on anyway so the noise didn't bother me.

It is all relative. We are about a mile from 95 and 2 miles from 215. We can clearly hear the morning rush. One reason of course is that it is a very quiet neighborhood. But you can't miss the expressway even a mile away.
We are not bothered by the Nellis jets even though aware of them . By the time they get out this far they are probably at ten thousand feet or more.

Personally I would say north west....but thats just what i prefer. just look at surrounding area....how much effort does the city put in area, are there a lot of vacant homes and businesses. Look at the people in the area. You'll get a feel for it.
Bad things can happen anywhere esp if you put yourself in peril and are not aware of your surroundings.

Probably, there are a lot of bars and stuff that we pass by on our way to Boulder City that say that they speak Nascar. Go to the 7-11 on Water Street or the one on Pacific, you will see.
