It's in El Dorado, right next to Aliante. Between Tropical Parkway and Ann Road. Older(as in the last 7-8 years), but still good.

I read almost this entire topic last night and it's caused me to join. I've been here five years. I've worked for CCSD for over three. I've been to every single school and neighborhood in the metro area. I'm going to offend the NLV lovers here to an extent. I've also lived in Henderson (Auto Mall Area), NLV (Eldorado), and in Vegas at Desert Shores, Peccole Ranch and the Rainbow Curve area.
Schools: First off if you have kids. You may want to know the zoning for the schools. Nevada's education is near the bottom of the barrel in the US. You are at CCSD's mercy to where your kid goes to school. The house might be nice, but the school may not be. The worst school in the district would not be located in a classic "slum" area. The worst school in the district is Mojave HS. The news will even mention of the "high risk" schools when there is a lockdown. Those schools are Canyon Springs, Mojave, Legacy and Cheyenne. These are all NLV schools. Mojave and CS are the worse of those four. Legacy is a split off of Mojave's kids. Each and every of those school's have had gun violence in the last three years. Shadow Ridge is technically not in NLV. Decatur is the cutoff and it's at the north end of Decatur on the westside of the school. Schools not included but are just as bad or close (gun violence) are Desert Pines (east), LV High (far east) Western (near west) and Clark (middle, west of strip.) There are also good schools in "bad" parts of town. I've had no problems at Valley (near east), Rancho (near ne), or El Dorado (east.) Yes, Basic HS in Henderson is crummy and in a crummy area.
I'll break this down by quadrants.
Central: Avoid if possible for housing, there are plenty other options out there.
N: The old part of NLV is a flat no go up to Craig Rd. The problem with the the new NLV north of Craig is this. The houses look nice, the schools up there are crap. The people fleeing the bad area's of Vegas are moving up there and presto...the problems are following them up there. There was a shooting on Tropical last year by Coleman. These were 14 and 15 year old kids involved in this shooting. I lived in Eldorado and know the area well. There's also section eight housing going in Eldorado as well. Many people were looking to get out one year ago. Another friend of mine who left his house by Allen and Washburn three years ago. He's said the neighborhood got worse in the five years he was up there. The only place I'd live in NLV (if I ever did) is Aliante which is Centennial and north. That still has issues with houses being "rented" out to people. The last problem with NLV is the military jets overhead if you have a 2nd (swing) or 3rd (graveyard) shift.
NE: This is the worst section of town, not northtown. The area just east of the CSN Cheyenne Campus is the worst in town. It's misleading because the houses don't look that way. However, iron bars on the windows of some of the "nice" looking houses tell you what you need to know. Many of the kids "bussed" into Canyon Springs and Mojave actually live in this area. Air Force people who live at Nellis stay at Nellis or at Manch Manor (both are Military bases.) They don't live right off of base over there. Most military shop on base as well. They don't go to the Super Walmart at Craig and Nellis.
E: Also avoid this area if at all possible. It's not as bad as the NE section. You have to really look as it's more of a block by block area. At least be east of Eastern and look carefully after that. North of Sahara it's bad all the way up to Hollywood near Sunrise Mtn.
SE and S: The Henderson debate. The part of Henderson you want to avoid is east of the 95. This is the area near or along Boulder Hwy. This includes part of the area by Basic HS by the SE end of Boulder and Lake Mead. If you travel to the houses over there. It's not exactly safe. The newer side of Henderson by the Galleria Mall and the Auto Mall is perfectly fine all the way to the south end of town. Anything near Coronado HS in GV Ranch is perfecly suburban safe too. North of the 215 you are ok up to Russell Rd. You may want to avoid the area east of McCarran along Sunset up to the Henderson border. You are under the landing strip of the airport. Also avoid the Whitney Ranch strip of apt's if possible. Break-in's happen over there.
SW: The far SW along the beltway is among the safest in the metro area. The only area's to avoid are east of Jones along Tropicana.
W: Stay west of Rainbow is the general rule of thumb anywhere west. Once you are past Buffalo, you should be just fine.
Summerlin: The eastern edge of Summerlin is starting to crumble a bit.
NW: Stay on the west side of 95 up to Craig Rd. The apts just west of 95 along the hwy are a no go as well.
Overall: Live along the 215 starting at the 95 interchange. It's fine all the way around the south, west and north beltway's all the around to the north at Aliante.

response to nemspy
If you smoke crack, you will find crack in any city in the U.S., NEMSPY. And clearly you have been misled by the usual misconception certain individuals have for a given location anytime there is a bit of diversity. I live in Henderson (Green Valley) and can't wait to sell my house to move to North Las Vegas in the Alliante area. All of the new areas in N Las Vegas are as good if not better than many of the areas you named. I have lived in the Las Vegas area for over 16 years now so I know the area well. Hospitals, Malls, UNLV campus, Station Casinos, master planned communities, (like Summerlin) etc., etc. are all developing in N Las Vegas. So get off your high horse, stop dissiminating misleading information and take a drive to the new N Las Vegas. You are describing N Las Vegas as if the whole city revolved around the small area of the old N Las Vegas. I can name parts of Henderson worst then the old NLV. Take a drive around old Henderson, or the old W. Las Vegas, or better yet the area around UNLV...at the heart of Vegas if you're looking for some crack...you have a better chance of finding it there.

FUNNY! You forgot to mention the recent drive-by fatal shooting in a Summerlin school but did not miss any of the other schools. Also, the high teen-pregnancy ratio in the Henderson zip codes; 89015, 89012, 89014, 89052, 89074, 89141, 89123 (basically all of Henderson) and in Summerlin zip codes; 89141, 89139, 89147, 89135, 89148. PLEASE STOP STEREOTYPING and by the way, you also forgot to mention the percentage of kids using illegal drugs in the Summerlin and Henderson areas. Yeah, I bought a $505,000 home in Green Valley and believe me, the schools are drug and alcohol infested.

1. The CCSD system is known as one of the worst in the nation.
2. Teen pregnancy isn't going to rank with burglary, theft or homicide. Sorry for that revelation. That and drug usage prevention starts at the home with the parents. I've been on just about every single campus of the school system. I think I know the good and bad schools. I worked them.
3. Forgetting the Palo shooting wasn't an intentional mistake. It happened there. The odds of it happening again at Canyon Springs, Mojave, Western and Cheyenne are much greater.
4. If someone smoke's crack, then that person is a dumbass.
5. Stereotyping? Explain. If I was stereotyping. I wouldn't have said any nice things about Valley or Rancho HS. You tell me a worse area in Henderson than Lake Mead & MLK, Carey & Donna or near Nellis? All three areas are miles apart and all are in the city of NLV.

Interesting. Cite a source for that piece of utter BS...
After we deal with that one we may try some of the rest.

The poster didn't say that. They said the new areas of N Las Vegas, not old area's.
