Teaching English as a Second Language in Las Vegas
My husband and I are thinking about relocating to Las Vegas. I'm a K12 ESL teacher and it appears from their website that Clark County is hiring, but I'm wondering about other ESL teaching jobs. I'm particularly interested in teaching adult ESL. Are there any private language schools or adult ed. programs that employ ESL teachers in LV? I have my masters in teaching English to speakers of other languages (MATESOL) and a BA in general education. Does anyone know if there are any other employment opportunities for people working with immigrants/refugees? Also, my husband is Korean and we are wondering about the Korean population in LV? I did a search for Korean restaurants and churches and there seem to be quite a few. Thanks to anyone who can help us out!

College of Southern Nevada has an extensive ESL department, they provide many courses for ESL, so they probably need professors...
I believe there's a Korean church near me at Bermuda/Silverado Ranch and another Korean Church at Pecos-McLeod/Twain/Mohave
They are opening or have already opened a "Koreatown" at Rainbow/Desert Inn or maybe its Spring Mountain and there also building one at Jones/Warm Springs...

Thanks for the information! I checked out CSN, but it looks like they're hiring only part-time and the pay looks pretty low.
I am looking (just out of curiosity at this point) at real estate. Any ideas what areas I should avoid? Which are ideal?
What exactly is a "Koreatown"? Do you mean like a Chinatown or is it a store?

Koreatown at Rainbow/Desert Inn is I believe going to be more like a Korean swapmeet
Koreatown at Jones/Warm Springs is going to have an HMart and basically be a Korean-focused shopping center, both areas have a large Asian population...since Chinatown is on Spring Mountain east of Rainbow...
I forgot to say that CSN also got rid of 150 faculty, but maybe UNLV has an ESL program or Nevada State College...education is low on the totem pole here, unfortunately...there's a large population here that doesn't speak English, I know that some community centers have ESL classes, so i think you also should look into the city and county recreation departments, but i don't know the pay...

I know at JobConnect we sent a lot of people for ESL classes, but I never got involved with it. There are private schools though mostly Spanish. Might be a Korean school. We need to research that.

her husband is Korean, she's not limiting herself to teaching Koreans, she would just like to know where there is a Korean area, separate topic from the ESL topic...

How low is low? I heard the U.S. is abysmal low...but just curious to ask.
