The article is likely accurate. The crime is down. But it is also down pretty much every where else. That is the problem with crime. And all of the US and Las Vegas is down a whole lot from 20 years ago.
It is hard to believe when you listen to people on crime. But it really is a lot safer than it used to be.
The NE however tends to be higher in crime than the other outlying areas. It is however a lot safer than living nearer to the Strip or Downtown.

We lived, altogether, about 20 years on the east side although not quite that far east (near Nellis and Charleston)
For one thing, you're gonna find crime and grafitti just about anywhere in town. There are probably just as many meth labs in Summerlin as anywhere too (friend a cop there for years. this is from the horse's mouth!)
Speaking of horses, you can still buy property on the way east side that is horse property!
Malls? <yawn> Galleria is okay and it's not a hard trip to that one. Boulevard and Meadows are quite miss-able.
Yes there is crime but I honestly don't know an area in LV that is without crime. Sure, you could go to MLK and Owens and regularly watch shootings but an area with NO crime? Search me, I can't name one.
Why are you targeting this area in particular? Have you ever spent a lot of time in LV as a resident? Do your homework.

The rate of crime however varies over 10:1. You want to live where it is ten times more likely?
By neighborhood it is likely 50 to 1.

There was a shooting across the street from me. Jealous boyfriend murdered his girlfriend. Shot up the apt with auto gunfire and we were not able to return to our apt for over 4 hours while they worked the crime scene. It is not uncommon to hear fights outside the window around 3 am, the air base near by has planes that shake the house when ever they fly over. If you dont lock it, it will be stolen and sometimes if you lock it, they will still break in and steal it. We hope to move in the very near future. The closer you move up Lake Mead toward Hollywood, the better it gets. There is this drainage ditch that i jokingly call the divider line. one side is bad the other is better. LMAO
I think it's also important to note that not all crime here goes reported becuz ppl are afraid to call cops
I think this will impact opinions on the area IMO

Do you think the crime will go up when the new high school opens?
