Cuban restaurant?
Can anyone recommend a good Cuban restaurant? I'm specifically looking for a garlic chicken or garlic pork dish, similar to Versailles in Los Angeles.
I went to Mamacita's (the Mexican/Cuban place across from the Gold Spike) last night, and it wasn't so hot. Went to Rincon Criollo this afternoon and it was better, but it just wasn't as flavorful, citrus-y, and garlicky as Versailles.

There is the Florida Cafe just off the strip. I stopped in there for a drink once. I did not order anything, but the food looked pretty good.

Never been much of a fan of fried plantains...if I want a banana...I'll have a banana. Love the beans, though.

The Havana Grill on the corner of Eastern and Pebble. They have great atmostphere and a bar. The food is amazing. They do use a lot of garlic in their food. Rincon Criollo isn't bad but Havana Grill is the best by far IMO.

We tried the Cuba Cafe on East Tropicana a while ago.
It was, in my opinion, fabulous!
I love their Cuban sandwich!

Yeah, I know--to me plantains are way different than bananas (same texture, but different taste). They have them at Rum Jungle, and they are soooo good. I don't think I've tried them fried, so maybe they're not good that way, but they are definitely way better than bananas. Can't even compare in my opinion. I bet they taste wonderful with carmelized sugar; that is definitely something I'll look for.

I've been wanting to try one of the Cuban places in town for awhile now. I am one of the people who falls into the yea plantains! group. Just FYI, the unripe ones are often served deep fried and mashed into patties with salt and a little garlic and are called platanos, while the ripe ones might be sauteed and served with sugar and taste more like a banana (then called maduros, iirc). I like both kinds, but they are very different.
