Default How have you met people in Vegas?

Everyone always complains that it's hard to meet people out here, so I thought this thread would be helpful for some of the newbies in town.

There are always internet venues for meeting new people, that's a given, but I know that a lot of people aren't comfortable with meeting strangers off the internet.

So I thought that some of us could post our suggestions of fun places or cool ways for our new valley neighbors get better acquainted with other Las Vegans.

I enjoy dog parks as well.

I typically don't recommend clubs or bars on the strip, as they mainly attract tourists and fewer locals. But casinos off the strip (such as the Red Rock) can have a pretty good local scene.

There are also sports bars scattered around town oriented towards different pro teams, if you want to meet people from back home.

Join some of the meetup groups. Join the Passitonlv2 group at yahoo groups. They have meets once the weather starts warming up again, probably march or april. Most people bring their kids, family friendly.
You can meet people through work, or if you have kids, join the various family type groups. Or just talk to everyone you meet like some people do. And the internet is a great way to meet others.
Many people I know now I met from online groups at BBQ's, potlucks movies.
If you can't find a group you like, create your own. If you build it, they will come.

You all need to organize one of them outside at a park, a potluck type thing sometime when the weather is warmer. That way all the one's that don't like bars and the smoke may show up someday.

The way I have met most of the people I know here is through my children. Having children who attend school and play sports is a great way to meet people. I always feel bad for the single people who move here and have a hard time meeting people. Kids are like a built in social magnet.
