Best Kindergarten in Las Vegas
Hi,
I will be moving to LV in August and am looking for the best Kindergarten(s) in the Summerlin, Green Valley Areas for my daughter. I am interested in public and private schools.
Also: She will turn five in November. That means she would need to repeat preK. I am trying to have her admitted early for Kindergarten since she is quite advanced and has been in school already. Has anyone any pointers or experience in this process?
Thanks a lot for any help
Uli

"Need to repeat PreK"? Relax!!
I believe if the birthday is within a month or 2 of the cutoff, you can ask the school to test your child and they might allow entry depending on results.
Go with the private school options if your budget allows. There's 2 links right below your post, even. Or Google "private schools" "Las Vegas" and see what your choices are.

Meadows...8K or so per annum. There are others but that is probably the best by a ways.

Meadows does look great, but I do believe it is a bit more than 8k per year!

When we lived in LV before, I had a friend whose daughter was in a similar situation - October birthday, very bright, already reading, etc... The public school would not even consider admitting her early or even testing her to see if it was necessary. They ended up going with one of the smaller private schools over near Summerlin that was much less expensive then Meadows. There were several schools that specialized in preschool but also had kindergarten programs - I'm sorry but I don't remember the name of the school but you might want to check the smaller schools that don't teach all the way up through the higher grades. They were going to then transition her to public schools after she completed Kinder or 1st. From personal experience with my son who is also very bright academically, but had a late birthday - I found that the extra year of pre-K actually worked in his favor because he needed the extra year to mature emotionally even though he could do the academic work. He wasn't bored and I just provided supplemental educational experiences rather than worrying about getting him into Kinder early. I'm sure it will work out for your daughter regardless - you sound like an actively involved parent and that IMO is the most important factor in a child's success.

When we lived in Vegas we enrolled out son at St Viator, and I could not have been more pleased with the school--top notch. If you decide to check it out there is a waiting list. I believe we paid 5k per year
