Default Somebody explain this to me like I'm a two year old.

I work in a nightclub in a major casino on the strip.
Every night it's packed to the gills.
I have a friend that works in Aria.
I have a friend that works in the Cosmo.
I have a friend that works in Paris.
I have a friend that works in the MGM.
They all report the same thing.
How is this city going broke?

How is this city going broke?
Very simple. You can start here:

"The Nevada Gaming Control board says Thursday that many of the state’s major gambling centers saw their numbers tumble. The Las Vegas Strip’s winnings were $449 million in March, nearly 15 percent down year-over-year. Downtown Las Vegas saw a 12 percent decrease and brought in $43 million."

Nevada Gaming Revenue Drops In March « CBS Las Vegas

Then you have this going on:

Public workers are already overpaid - Saturday, March 17, 2012 | 2 a.m. - Las Vegas Sun

The result is a city going broke. We need austerity to fix it.

Because night clubs and cities aren't interchangeable entities. In the same way I can walk into a packed pizza hut restaurant tonight but I still can't conclude anything about the financials of the city.

Logic, underrated!

To me Las Vegas is like the highway of endless dreams...it's a facade that's deceiving. Actually you can say that for our nation as well. We put on a front but inside there is this disease called debt and that is real.

Obviously nightclubs aren't the barometer to judge how well a city is doing.
The friends I mentioned don't work in nightclubs.
One is a manager who says although rooms aren't at 100% capacity, they are far far far from empty.
Two are dealers who always tell me about how much money passes through their hands every shift.
Of course sometimes the casinos pay out, usually they don't have to.
One dealer told me about a guy that spent 3 hours at the tables and lost close to 100k.
Not the biggest whale out there....but still...that's a 100k, and that's just one guy.

The strip is packed every weekend and some weeknights.
Can't run Vegas on the weekend crowd I know, BUT....it's getting better.
The malls here in Henderson have full parking lots.
Every store I go in, I'm standing on line.
Every casino I go in there are people playing.
...and playing...and playing...
Maybe it's just me but is it REALLLLLLY still bad out there?
On paper I guess so...
I dunno---I guess I had this revelation because the other day I watched a guy loose and entire stack of 100$ chips in about 20 min.

cheeeesh......YES.....this March was down compared to LASTMarch......LAST March was the highes March in the History of Las Vegas.....it was UP from the PREVIOUS march by something like 30%[from memory so I really dont GAS if im wrong] We EXPECTED this....we PLANNED for this.....EVERYPLACE in TOWN expected this....if you were to graph the ups and downs the trend is STILL up.....Las Vegas is healing itself....despite what the naysayers want to believe.

MOST hotels are at 100% EACH and EVERY weekend, at rates far higher then they have received in years.....weekdays tend to be down....somewhere around 84-95%....leaving us with a 90% occupancy rate [on average[ for the month.

I tried to explain it to you earlier, but I will try again. We pay out more than we take in. That is all there is to it. It is really that simple. Maybe this will help.
