We live in the woods...a deer showed up on our front yard yesterday, but no kids *. We never get any...kids or mischief.

*Grandkids stopped by for a bit dressed up...not official trick-or-treaters

My daughter won her community decorating contest again. She wins almost every year. Really gets carried away inside and out. Martha Stewart is her idol. We went to her place and they had lots of kids...people stopping to take pictures...all but me. I never get any pix.

I heard a few kids go by, but with no lights on they didn't knock at my door.

I am impressed that kids in Vegas follow the rules and do not knock on doors that have no light on. We also did not turn on our lights and had no knocks.

The light by the front door of my apartment was on, but that's automatic, and doesn't mean anything.

When I tricked-and-treated where I grew up in the 50's, everyone in the neighborhood gave out candy except one house where their religion forbade any participation in Halloween.

Why did everyone give out candy back then? Because they knew if they didn't, they'd have soap to clean off their windows in the morning, and toilet paper streaming from their trees or, or, or.

Our neighbors had no choice: do it or else!

I was so embarrassed by my neighbors this year, so very few handed out candy, that I even apologized to the parents for my neighborhood.

I just can't believe the passivity of kids today!

Next year, if my neighbors don't cooperate more, I'm going to hand out candy AND a small bar of soap to each child. OR, I'll soap their windows myself!

With our country's large graying population, we need to show more respect and love for this younger generation. Once a year, inconvenienced for a couple hours, is that going to kill anyone?

When I was a kid, a family friend gave out small cups of hot mulled cider each year. It was a nice break from all of the candy.

I expected to be egged for not giving out candy, I agree that times have changed.
