Thanks, Elko. How did your son like doing census work?

I checked with my friend, Trudy, and she said the rental company still hasn't let them back in to get our stuff. My futon is still on the front patio, and I need to transport it to my sister's by Friday. Sadly, I don't have access to a truck or van.

aqualung, our son I think mostly tolerated census work. I don't think he hated it, but when there was an opportunity to do some of it in Cochise Couny in SE Arizona several months ago he balked
at it and got a job as a waiter in a restaurant instead.

He worked in Skagit County of Washington state back in the 2000 census.

Default Good News on the Job Front

Just wanted to let everybody know that I have a job interview tomorrow evening at the MGM Grand. I will be working at the Haagen Dazs stand if I get hired

Just returned from a 2-day trip to Tijuana, mainly for dental work & meds.

I can go through money faster in Tijuana in 2 days than 6 trips to the LV Strip.

It's like going to a 99-cent store, and at check-out, you cry: $200?!

If it isn't the pirated/used DVD's/VHS/CD stands at the downtown Swap Meet,
medications (needed or not needed), the arts/crafts stores at the border (bought 4 paintings), the botanicas, dental work, the slushy lemon ices they sell everywhere (not cheap either), the massage places (got one at a legit message salon this trip), it's the Zona Norte bar/red light district at night. Only 25? Only 30? Only 35? Oofta! Thank God they don't take credit cards and I don't live closer!

They're ripping up many of the streets in Downtown Tijuana, widening the sidewalks (It's about time!) and limiting the vehicles. Revolution Ave. only allows two lanes of traffic now, with widened plaza-like sidewalks. Nice improvement!

But I hate those long lines at the Border! Talked to a number of Custom guards, and despite all you hear that you now need a Passport to go to/from Mexico, they're still only wrist slapping! No passport, no problem!

I've always loved that city, it has a way of bringing me down to earth, in such a beautiful way! It a country with a minimum wage of $5 a day, it awes me to see all those smiling faces. Myself, I'd be crying if I worked and lived there for $5 a day considering how expensive that city is!

Good news...I guess.

Just curious...what do you want to do when you grow up? By this, I mean that these menial-type jobs are all well and good when you're a teen, or working your way through college...but I'm just curious as to what is the bigger picture you have planned for yourself? You seem like a nice guy and a go-getter...so I would think there's more to your plans than working a job, versus having a career.

Where do you want to be in life at age 30? How do you plan to get there?

You know what JFK that I am still not sure about. When I graduated high school in 2008 I told myself I was going to take 1 year off school to figure out what I want to do. I find myself two years later still kind of drifting along trying to find myself. I was never really the classroom type growing up if you can believe it or not, I was a very smart kid but I never gave any effort in school thus I had horrible grades and barely made it through high school. I was just so glad to be done with it at the time. When I had graduated I was originally planning to stay at Publix and eventually work my way into management, but late last year I realized that wasn't what I wanted to do

I have several options on the table now. One was a suggestion from a former MGM employee to become a card dealer or bartender saying "the more games you know the better" I am great with people and I think I would make a good bartender or dealer

My other option was to start college at CSN and then eventually transfer to UNLV. Major? I dont know yet. For my first two years I'm more concerned about passing the pre requisite courses before continuing on

I also have a secret desire to be a blackjack and/or craps dealer when I grow up, as I also have good people skills. I'd love to retire from my current career in the next few years...and do casino dealing in retirement, as I wait for my wife to catch up to me (she's 5 years younger). They keep floating the idea of casinos in The Catskills up here...but they've been floating it around forever. For some reason, NY is a very anti-gaming state, as they watch their resident's gambling dollars go to NJ (Atlantic City), CT (Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun), and now PA, which just allowed table games in their state, as of last week. Turning Stone is the only "real" casino in NY, run by the Oneida tribe...out towards Syracuse.

Default Kenny Guinn Died

The news just broke into programming reporting that former governor Kenny Guinn died this morning as he was cleaning pine needles off his roof, suffered a heart attack and fell to the ground...
