It's all a matter of supply and demand. They know there's a huge supply of people willing to work those jobs so they inevitably start viewing courtesy as unnecessary in a lot of cases. Little do they know that irritated employees are bad for business. On the other hand, supply and demand has worked in my favor recently. I had to renew my lease and I told them I'm flat out not paying pet rent. The guy tried to say it's corporate policy but then conceded that they would remove it after I pointed out the large number of vacant apartments.
