Maybe if I were younger, I wouldn't mind doing this trip in one day.

But I've had to travel back and forth to SD a lot recently, now mind you, this is all the way in Cardiff by the Sea, so much further south; but still, that trip in one day is a lot to handle.

It's still exhausting to me, after a day out in the sun and surf, I'm real tired and it's difficult to drive that distance back to LV when you're that tired.

What I would do if I were the op, I'd drive down early in the day (wee morning hours to avoid the traffic), enjoy the day on the beach, in the sun, do whatever you'd want to do and then stay overnight in a motel.

Leave real early the next morning and head back to Las Vegas to enjoy another full day here, well rested from your day at the ocean.

Thanks again for all the help! We really have no idea about the area, so all the help is much appreciated.
Dana Point? I would rather go to Laguna Beach or Newport Beach... but that is my opinion. The route is fine.

L.A. area traffic jams are from 6AM until 10AM, and from 3PM until 7PM (plus or minus).
