Now I've been coming to Vegas for years before I ever bought a place here so I know that convenience stores, grocery stores etc. all have a few video poker games in them and it was always kind of a cute reminder that I was in Vegas. But now that I am here and in grocery stores more I have one question....

Who the f--- are these people playing these games?

Am I missing some kind of wonderful comps from these places, great VP paytables? I'm getting gas at the Chevron across the street from the Palms, walking distance to Gold Coast, diagonal across from The Loose Caboose and people are playing in a gas station. WTF? Have these people been thrown out of every other place in town?

I just started reading some articles from Bob Dancer's website and he had a column about playing in pubs....he said there are machines with good paytables scattered around, but won't tell anyone where they are. I imagine the same goes for gas stations and grocery stores? I'll check them out next time I'm in the store...

I've checked a few...might as well play on the Strip from what I've seen. Like I said, I get playing in a pub, it's the grocery stores and gas stations that get me.

I was totally shocked to see that when I moved here. Sunday, 4pm, Albertsons, 5-6 people playing!

Maybe they're just waiting for other people to shop? or they're so addicted to gambling that they come in to buy groceries but don't make it past the little area w/ the machines?

That is one possible reason that might apply to a few.

also, the pubs that don't serve food allow smoking, maybe these people don't want to be near the smoke?

maybe grabbing a 40 off the shelf and popping it open is faster than finding a cocktail waitress.

They have a fridge that you can get a free coke from at the grocery stores.

Maybe it's easier for some to go to the store and play versus going to a casino. Most of the people I see playing the in store machines are older gray haired people. They may not live close to a casino, so they go there.

Plus there are usually men playing, probably while their wives are shopping. So many men hate shopping with a passion so if there is a slot machine there, they will go.
