Well I have posted before and I appreciate all the assistance I have received so far. I am not looking for a forum such as this or anyone else to make my our final decision on relocating to Vegas, but we just can't seem to make that final choice. I just returned from the area where I tested for the Metro Police and made it through the initial phases and will be getting a call to move further through the process. My wife is in her final year of nursing school where she graduate as an RN, she has about (5) years experience as a critical care LPN here in PA. We both love the SW, we are sick of long hard winters, rainy, cloudy days for days on end, the area we live being "behind the times" not new developments, buildings ect... We were originally looking to build a new house here, but when the housing prices dropped in LV we thought "hey, maybe we could find work and actually afford to move there" where in the past we could not. We have three young girls which is of course of highest of priorities. The schools in Vegas and the big city life is where our apprehension comes in. We have decided thus far that we would send the two younger kids to Batterman Elementary which didn't seem bad, and our oldest to Bishop Gorman. We would like to live in the Sw area of Summerlin whcih I think we could swing. Another driving force is that I DO NOT want to work for my current agency for the next 15-20 years. It is a good job but not where I see myself. As you may have read before, I have some family there, a brother and his daughter. We are coming down to the final wire, as I have to move forward in the hiring process or move on some property we have looked at here in PA. Like stated before, I am not looking for someone else to make this difficult decision, but some honest insight and/or final thoughts. Sorry so long and thank again.

I hear ya it's not an easy decision. Not to discourage you or anything but weather shouldnt be a reason to move if you have a family. Just go/stay where you have or can find a stable job that will put food on the dinner table and presents under the xmas tree. MHO

I love how that part of the country is behind in the times, actually they just modernize old buildings instead of demolishing them like they do here....

That's assuming that the original poster celebrates Christmas. For all we know, they could be a zen druid, and worship the tree that isn't there.

Heh heh, I always wanted to tell that to a door to door preacher. I do have a sign that has an evil looking anime character, dressed as a nurse (Washu from Tenchi Muyou), with the caption, "Solicitors of all types will be subjected to medical experimentation." I'll have to post a picture of it sometime.

I don't see how a decision can be made at this time or any time soon. By your description, you are through the 'initial' phase of the process.

It sounds like you want the lifestyle that requires two incomes. Your wife's degree will bring in a good income here. But what to do, if your application doesn't make it all of the way through the process? You have definatly done your homework. Everything else makes sense. You are ready. You just need a firm job offer. Just thinking out loud here.

Good Luck and Welcome.

If you feel really positive about your job opportunity in Las Vegas, I would say the biggest part of the battle is already decided. Your wife should have no trouble with her employment and I'm sure the kids will fit right in. You're in Pa. and I'm in Ohio, waiting for my house to sell to make the move, but after years of researching, I can tell you I do expect Las Vegas to be much better than this part of the country. Our research has shown us that our money will go much further in Las Vegas, not to mention having a better lifestyle with more entertainment opportunities. I don't know what you currently pay in property taxes but the same price home in Las Vegas will cost us half what we now pay. Utilities are much cheaper, gas is even cheaper. In addition, there is no state tax. Now that real estate has come down there, we are about even on home prices. Most places in Pa. I am familiar with are quite high.

As you may know, the summers there are beastly hot but I'd rather have the dry heat any day than the humidity around here. The absence of fleas and ticks and not having to keep our pets on heart worm is also a plus for me. Vehicle registration and car insurance I'm sure will be higher than I am accustomed to but I've got to believe we will pick that up in just following some of the casino's food loss leaders. Here we limit ourselves to one breakfast out per week but that alone takes a $20 bill.

Gacri, what feedback has your brother given you? He would be the best indicator of whether a move to Las Vegas is right for you.

Or is his opinion all negative? Is that why you're asking this question?

Remember, not everyone is in love with living in Las Vegas, and some have done some pretty POOR planning with their move to LV, which colors their world in not so rosy a tone.

You've been here, you've seen the desert, the schools, the parks, etc...tons of families with kids live here.

So your question, play it safe and stay in Pennsylvania, or take the leap and head west? Tough one, really. Having family here in Las Vegas helps somewhat. Seems like you already had made the decision to move to LV by taking the first of Metro's tests? Just keep in mind, that a source of guaranteed income is essential when moving to a new locale. Savings becomes depleted quickly if you don't have money coming in on a regular basis early on.

Take some time and scour these forum threads, you'll get the good, the bad and the ugly.

And you'll probably get your answer. Much good luck to you and the family!
