Basically what the topic says,

I driving out there this weekend with a bunch of my girlfriends and I think it would be safe for at least one of us to have a firearm with us.

I dont have a CCW, it expired last week (great timing I know)

so I want to know if I can carry it in my car and leave it in the safe in the hotel room or not.

Thanks

You don't need a gun, you'll be fine. Just go wandering in places like Naked City, or any of the alphabet streets at night. I'm assuming that you and your friends will be sticking around the Strip, or the Fremont Street area. Plenty of cops and other security officers at the hotels to protect you, so you don't have to do your impression of Jane Wayne or Dirty Harriet.

Leave your gun at home, one less thing to worry about. If you are staying on the strip you and your girlfriends will be safe don't worry. Just come and enjoy Vegas!

If you don't have a CCW you would likely have to carry the gun in your vehicle unloaded and possibly separated from the ammo. You would need to check with each sate you are driving through.

Open carry is legal in Vegas, but the hotels and casinos may (and likely do) have rules against. However a gun in a gun case is not considered concealed, so if you had to transport from your car to the room this would be the proper and legal way. You can also open carry in the car (it can be loaded but must be in plain view), but once you put it in the glove box or under the seat you need a CCW. If you are under the influence of alcohol, it is illegal to have firearm on your person. Also, your state's CCW may not be any good in NV. Here is a list of the other state's CCWs that are recognized in NV.

Alaska
Arkansas
Florida (added January 3, 2008)
Kansas
Louisiana
Michigan (added May 9, 2008)
Missouri
Nebraska
Tennessee
Utah

Keep in mind that you will likely get ALOT of attention if you OC your weapon. It may just be easier to leave it at home, but should you decide to bring it you do have options.

In case you decide to research further instead of taking the advice of strangers:

http://www.leg.state.nv.us/NRs/NRS-2...l#NRS202Sec253

It's a good resource and as long as you have the time and patience to scroll through it (I highly recommend it) you will find the answers you seek.

hey jessie -- as a single woman who lives here and goes out w/ friends or alone a good bit, I wouldn't think you'd go anywhere here that you'd need a gun for protection. I don't remember any of the specifics, but I recall a thread on here a couple of months ago that listed in detail several of the various NV gun laws. You might want to search for that, and it should tell ya all you need to know.
Hope you have fun while you're here! We could use the business!

Plus, why bring a gun and then leave it in your car or in a hotel room, it's not like a criminal is going to wait while you go get it! If you're not going to carry most of the time then why bother?

or are you (the OP) more worried about being on the road and breaking down and being stranded somewhere scary? I think the old post I was talking about was in reference to that... A woman who was going to be driving between LA and LV a lot....

If you are all traveling together as a group, and you all have cell phones, you should have nothing to worry about. If you still feel you need something to protect you, then bring a Taser instead. They now sell personal ones. Or get a stun gun. (you do have to register them though)But really, why in the world would you need a gun or other weapon to visit Vegas?

Please don't bring a gun to Las Vegas.

We live here and don't own any.

We don't want to meet you on the street and bump into you in the wrong way by mistake.

Half the households in Clark County have firearms... yet somehow the nightly bloodbaths on every block are avoided. Shocking!

OP: I wouldn't worry about needing one while you're here. Like others have said, as long as you're sticking to the touristy areas you'll be fine.
