Assessor lowers assessment--more.
My place is currently assessed at 112K, but I bought it for 35.4K on 26 January 2009. At that time, the new assessment (09-10) was listed at 72K. That meant my taxes would be about 800, which seemed too high. On 30 January, I went to the Assessors Office on Grand Central. I wanted to appeal. Since I was not the owner on 15 January 2009; I could not have possibly filed an appeal. 15 January is the deadline. I was going to be forced to pay unfair taxes, at least through 30 June 2010; a year and a half, after buying the home. The representative from the Assessor's Office told me in a polite way--"It's unfortunate."
Fast forward to last week, when I look up my property for tax information. The new assessment had been lowered to 52K. Did anyone else experience this phenomena? I am pleased. My taxes will now be about 600, and it is much more likely that I will see value rise.

We bought in Nov 2008. I just went and checked Clark County site. Our assessment and tax bill are the same now as they were in Nov 2008. I could be wrong, but I thought we were told at that time that no significant changes would take place until 3rd quarter 2009. Since we were 2 to 3 months ahead of you in the purchase process, and we have seen no change, something sounds fishy, either for you or us.
Since property market values/sale values are changing so rapidly we were planning to wait and see what happens in 3rd quarter 2009. If there is no change, you can bet we will be appealing.

The current assessment year is 2008-2009. That's not going to change. 2009-2010 is what's changed. 2010-2011 will come out in December, and you will have until 15 January 2010 to appeal that.
In your case, you could have appealed your 2009-2010 assessment.

My assessments dropped on all 4 of my rentals by quite a bit (40-50%). They are still above what I paid but much closer now. Yeah, I'm happy!

Where do you find the tax information online? I just entered contract on a house and I would like to know what the annual taxes will be.

Go to:
Search By Location Address
Fill in the address. This will take you to the parcel number. Use the parcel number on the lookup page of that site to go to tax information of your contracted house.
