young baker wanting to move to Vegas
PLEASE HELP!!!!I wanted to know you all can help me with a critical decision I'm making. I am 24 and currently a baker in Alabama. I moved here about 3yrs ago from NY because my mom is originally from here and I have a ton of family here. I've been contemplating for awhile now about moving to Vegas for career and social reasons. I have extremely bad credit and I wanted to know if it will be difficult for me to secure housing? I also wanted to know with me being a baker/pastry cook with about 3 yrs experience (no college degree) if it would be hard for me to get a decent paying job in the field and with me being in Alabama what would be the best route for me to begin my job search? I would like to get a degree in baking and pastry arts and the only school offering a degree granting program in that area is The Art Institute - is there any one that can tell me anything about the program?

The Art Institute/Culinary Institute is located in Green Valley. I have seen many people on the bus that go there and they enjoy it. That's about all I know about that.

Bad credit will just require that you post a larger security deposit in many apartment complexes. You can expect to have maybe 3 months rent as a deposit, if not more. As a baker with only a few years experience and without formal training, I wouldn't be expecting to make much more than $6-8/hour if I were you, so keep that in mind when figuring your finances.

i went to AI in new york city, back when i went thre it was called
the new york restaurant school. even though its a diffrent school the have the same programs because of them being owned by the same company. the classes and faculty were pretty good. but what your going there is for the diploma, that will get in the door of a good job. but u have the most important thing real world experince. thats how u keep the job. cooking school is fun but it is not the real world....oh im movin to vegas in 7 weeks with 10years NYC catering & cooking experince so the markets gunna get a little tighter

Note that there is a strong Vegas bias against those who do not live here. Other than professional and high level jobs you generally have trouble getting hired unless you live here.
You can do at least a reasonable fake of living in Vegas if you work at it. Get a 702 cell phone and a mailing address. That will help.

[hi i just moved to vegas 2 months ago and i have a degree in pastries. from my experience in trying to get a pastry job it is very difficult, because they dont hire pastry people as often as they hire cooks. The rent is not so bad compared to what i use to pay in florida. but they pay decent enough for u to afford a nice appartement. They have the lecorbon bleu school here that is good. so my advice would be to come out and give it a try. it will take u a while to get a pastry job but its worth it. call the school and check them out ask about the union and how much the pastry field gets paid
