30% tax loss, Rhodes ranch, Riviera, Station Casinos going under?
When it rains it pours in Las Vegas!
Just checked the RJ and LV sun today and there are talks that the Riviera, Station Casinos (new about that one already), and Rhodes Ranch will file for bankruptcy. Added to that are another drop in home value, the problems with City Center, and a projected additional 30% loss in taxes (that is 30% from what was projected in December by the economic forum). That later one will probably mean additional tax increases, budget cuts, and laying off of public employees (read here teachers like myself).
Any good news out there?
This is especially worrying for folks like me who will not know if they still have a job for the next school year until May/June when it is too late to apply elsewhere. I guess on the bright side I am not married and do not have any other mouths to feed, could be worst...

No, the casinos aren't going to close, and the sky isn't falling. Now, please get back under your bridge.

Gregory, please don't incite the locals. They're very sensitive.

While this economy cannot possibly be construed as good times, I did see on the news this week that $550 million in stimulus money was on its way to Nevada for education. Hopefully your job will be saved.

I wouldn't say that we're sensitive, Tony. It's more like we're sick and tired of the same fetid load of Dingo's kidneys that Vegas is going to roll up its sidewalks, and disappear into the dust. The day that happens, I'll paint myself purple, tattoo "Hello Sailor!" in pink on my schmekle, and bungee jump nude from the Stratosphere.

aqualung8705, take a look at the difference between your response and Spike's. Tattooed schmekle or not, you may be just a little sensitive. For the life of me, I don't understand why people wade into threads that are clearly titled as a topic they're sick and tired of reading about. Wouldn't it create less anxiety for those people to simply pass over the thread?
Years ago, when Howard Stern's show first started broadcasting in the bay area, there were a number of people that actively petitioned to have the show taken off a local radio station. They found the show to be tasteless and offensive. I always wanted to ask one of them why they didn't simply turn the dial to another station.

Why did I respond? Simple, I was bored, and felt that I had to combat the ever rising level of fertilizer emanating from beneath the bridge where you all live. The whole bunch of you only post negative things. How about posting pleasant for a change?

It's not all pleasant news out there. In fact, things are relatively difficult now. I don't look to this board to buoy my spirits. I look here for information; both bad and good. I filter the information for what's useful and discard what's not. I don't need someone else deciding what's pleasant enough for me to read.
Just change the dial to another station.
