The last time I visited my friend who resides on South Eastern was last summer. It was a scorching hot day. And I never heard one complaint as to whether it was too hot, her neighbors were too noisy
and she didn't speak of any fears for her safety there, whether not someone might steal her jewelry or get raped in the middle of the night. So I'm just assuming........

This color coded map is far too broad. You need a better indication by looking at where you will live. I always use the Las Vegas Police Department crime search. For starters, it's FACTUAL and UP TO DATE. Secondly, it would suck if you lived in a zip code that was supposedly yellow but then moved into a neighborhood where all the crime from that zip code actually was.
Search using this instead: http://www.lvmpd.com/crimeviewcommunity/wizard.asp
Far more accurate read for a 1 mile radius. At least you'll know more about the neighborhood.

A mile is probably too big. 1/4 mile if you want neighborhood numbers...however there are roughly 4000 such locations in the Las Vegas City area and maybe 15,000 in the Valley. That is a lot of data to deal with...Note as well Metro does not cover NLV or Henderson.
With one mile numbers you see all the arterials which overstate the crime in a neighborhood.
I'll run a new one this summer but I see no practical way to get below zip codes. Even that is hard as NLV uses a precinct system that correlates to nothing.

I've been using that crime search for Henderson and Green Valley as well and it worked just fine. Punch in an address and you'll see. As for NLV, who would want to live there anyway? That place has the worst reputation for crime -- you wouldn't need color codes or crime search for that one. :-)
I do use it for the 1/4 radius, but I mentioned that it can give you a 1 mile radius if needed and the numbers are about as accurate as you can get if you want updated info on a place to investigate. There is also another one I was using but sometimes the site loads very slow. Otherwise it's pretty good: Las Vegas Crime Map - Showing Crime in Las Vegas, NV - Crime Statistics - Crime Alerts - Crime Stops Here

beempa, contrary to what you think you know about North Las Vegas, the info you think you know is for the old part of NLV known as Northtown to those who've been around for awhile.
I almost gave you a rep point for a post above but glad I did not for the post above this one.

That's a pretty broad stroke there. NLV has some really nice areas. My mother-in-law grew up here and has the same opinion of NLV, but she hasn't lived here in decades. We finally showed her some of the nicer areas (Aliante) when she was up here a month or so ago. She changed her opinion pretty quick.

It does not work even remotely in Henderson. You really believe there is no crime in 89012? That is what it says....If you get any hits it is because some small piece of metro is in a Henderson zip code or the cops crossed the line chasing somebody.
Spotcrime is simple a partial regurgitation of the crimeview site. It is not particularly well done and works badly. It also claims there is no crime in NLV or Henderson.
And Crimeview has its problems. Ever notice there are no homicides in Las Vegas? Is that not amazing?
I only made up the crime chart after it became clear that no good one existed. If you ever find one let us know and we will drop it. But for the moment it is still the best around...mainly because it is the only one around.
The other sites are useful if you want to check a house. The Crime map is good if you are trying to find an area in which to look.

I would say it's a fair assessment of my neighborhood; 89128. It's yellow. I feel very safe walking the streets, but I'm sure there is a touch of crime.

C'mon, give us a break. You trying to tell us that ALL areas of NLV are crime ridden? Family neighborhoods like Aliante and El Dorado?
You're way off base with this one and you may not be completely unfamiliar with most areas of NLV.
Jeez, I was looking at this cute house just the other day in the Butterfield subdivision (with my niece), dang, it was all to do to keep from buying it for myself. JUST BEAUTIFUL, CLEAN AND SAFE AREA!!

I live in North Las Vegas, and have for almost 8 years now. You just have to stay away from the older areas. I live right outside of Eldorado, and loved it. I could have gotten a house in other areas of town, but I chose to stay in North Las Vegas because I love it.
