maybe you would be more interested in a place like Pahrump or Searchlight or Indian Springs, possibly even Boulder City or Mesquite

Boulder City would be good if you can afford the house. You might want to consider Henderson around Racetrack Road - that's about as "out there" as it gets in Vegas terms.

We are seriously considering a move to the area for our job(s) and also have three young girls. I have done a significant amount of research and IMO Summerlin has the most to offer. It is like a litttle community in itself and with the drop in the housing market makes the area more affordable. Check out summerlin.com they have quite a nice site. Also the schools in this area rank pretty well and it is not too close to all the hustle and bustle. I have family that lives in mountains edge which is in the southwest area...It is nice but a step below the Summerlin area, I feel.

I have lived here for about 15 months - I have rented in Seven Hills - which I loved and now I live in Green Valley Ranch - close to the district which I ADORE! Green Valley Ranch to me is such a nice little niche in this city. It has anything you could want but is geared towards family. It is green and landscaped beautifully - it has parks, walking trails and a beautiful library. It has an awesome recreation center geared toward families with swimming pools, rock climbing walls, all sorts of classes you can take from tumbling to stained glass - all for a very nominal fee. It has some of the best ranked schools in Clark County. To me, I wouldn't live anywhere else..

Boulder City is very expensive. Figure 20 or 25% more for the same house than Summerlin or GV and 30 or 40% more than say 89131.
It is also a lousey commute to parts of Las Vegas.
I suggest the OP get over the small town thing. The only one we really have is Indian Springs and that is a tough sell. If you have a good bit of dough you can live in Cold Creek and school in Indian Springs which actually is a pretty nice school deal.
BC does a good job of Mayberry RFD...but it is actually a pretty good sized place.
Go for the school for the kids. All the rest will work out. Coming from somewhat rural MI I would not expect a lot of house money...so go for 89131 and buy in a gated community. A year from now you will be Las Vegans just like the rest of us. Last ten years and they declare you a native.

This will not help the OP at all, GVR is too busy for them as well...
BTW, we used to live in Seven Hills and GVR and are now much happier where we are at now...
