Speaking of that - I sure they hell hope they think of that when they build the new airport - a cab ride from Jean to the Strip would cost more than the flight .........

Ah I see.. Thank you for input, Yeti and Olecapt.

Yes I am aware there is Nellis Air Force Base near Speedway. I knew that it would not work for that location. Yes I know where is Jean is not far from Las Vegas to the south past Sloan or before Primm (Stateline) on I-15.

Are you talking about Ivanpah?

Ivanpah will handle domestric, passenger travel last I heard. McCarran will be for international passengers and some domestic as well.

Shuttle services (either bus or rail) are going to be provided from Ivanpah to McCarran. Construction supposed to be completed on Phase I by 2018.

Southern Nevada Supplemental Airport EIS - Home

A new commercial airport 30 miles
southwest of Las Vegas (Ivanpah Valley) is
currently being planned on 6,000 acres of land
just east of Interstate 15. Phase I of the Ivanpah
Valley Airport is expected to be open in 2017
and will initially serve 6 million passengers
annually. When Ivanpah airport is completed it
will serve 35 million passengers with a 14-gate
terminal and two parallel runways for
concurrent takeoff and landings. The
environmental planning work for the airport is
currently underway.
