This may sound like a silly question but it's going to be my first time renting a house in the states. As a single guy I'm going to be earning around $80,000 pre tax- what percentage is appropriate to spend on rent? What should be my realistic top end of monthly rent?

Would really appreciate any help- cheers

If you're going to be earning $80k per year, gross, you can pretty much live anywhere you want to in Vegas. Are you looking for more modest digs, or are you aiming to be Steve Wynn's good twin brother?

Lol somewhere inbetween I'd like as nice a place as I can realistically afford whilst still leaving enough money for leisure other bills etc.

$1,000 to $1,300 per month depending on how conservative you are accustomed to living. For that amount, you would have a nice place.

Or, you could buy a 3 bedroom 2 bath house, if you are in good shape on the other variables.

There are some people who think that you have to live like Donald Trump to really enjoy Vegas. *******s! It's better to save your money, then have more fun with it in other ways. I'm assuming that you're coming from the UK.

Personally, #8 was worth it.

Oh, jeez aqua! That was painful to watch. I must admit I laughed tho'!

To the OP - isn't the general rule on rent ~25-30% of your monthly salary? you could easily afford ~$1500/mo. you could get a really sweet place for that kinda $$, esp if you don't have any dependents.
