Construction work in Vegas. Anyone in the business out there? We need contacts!! Thanks!!
My husband and I are moving to Vegas this summer after we sell our house. And my husband is a General Residential Contractor here where we live.
He has over 25+ years experience. He is very quality oriented, has great work ethics, and has done many projects over the years.
Everything from framing to custom cabinets, add ons, decks, patios, finish work, remodling, etc.
He can do it all. Even has some knowledge in electrical and plumbing.
However, where we are from, the business is consumed by the larger firms and there just isn't enough work for the "little guys". So he has had a hard time finding work on a consistent basis. So about a year ago he had to aquire a position as an employee, not a sub, for a larger firm just to keep busy. However, the firms around here do not pay well, he is a licensed contractor, working as crew chief, working overtime, doing paperwork, customer relations and employee relations as well as payroll, hiring, firing, Quality control etc. And he didn't even make $30K gross for the year.
We are moving to Vegas to hopefully find better paying jobs, and for the weather. It's cold and wet here in the winter, and humid in the summer with temps about what they are in Vegas.
We have been going to Vegas 2-3 times a year for the past 10 years and have relatives there. They keep telling us that he can double his income easily even without a contractor license just working as an employee for someone there.
Is this realistic? Or are we just kidding ourselves? I am in Customer Service/Management so I am not worried about work for me. But, he is concerned on his outlook for employement.
Even though the national rumor is that the construction business is booming in Vegas. We want to make sure he has potential.
He is most interested in the remodeling side of things, Custom Cabinets, remodels, repairs, decks, fences, patios, and finish work.
He wants to get away from the framing if possible, he has a bad back and that really makes it hurt. So he wants to go with the lighter side of things.
Anyone out there who is connected to the construction industry in Vegas?
Anyone particularly that would be willing to keep in contact with us and maybe help him get connected when we get there.
If not, just anyone with hands on experience in this area, your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for all your help!!!!
