You can get a new outlet for about 8 bucks, you must also check every breaker on the circuit. My door bell wouldn't work because the bathroom breaker had tripped.

My doorbell melted in the heat of the direct sun. I replaced it, and now it only goes ding instead of ding dong. What's up with that?????

Many doorbells have a front and back door connection. Ding dong on one and Ding on the other. So you can tell back from front. Look at the bell and see if there is another position to hook the door wire too.

If not just buy a new one. Some play a good part of Bethoven 9th to announce an arrival.

Can you get one that will actually fool my dogs into thinking there's no one at the door and they don't have to jump up and down and bark?

There is a device that emits a super high pitch sound that is supposed to make dogs stop barking. Bark Stop.

Well you can get even. I once saw a door bell that barked.
