The Onyx Condos
Hello all its me again. I have a question about a condo complex called the Onyx. I know its very close to the strip, according to the Crime Map by Olecapt its in a very bad area. As you all know I was looking at Panorama and its in the "orange" and The Onyx is in the "red". Is there really such a big difference? I looked on google maps and there not really that far apart from each other. Any thoughts on this?

I wouldn't say that its in a bad area, but it looks to be in bankruptcy so good luck with getting financing!

I used to live in an apartment complex in Las Vegas called the Village Green. It was located in what most people would call a shady area, Sahara and Maryland PKWY. They were just south of Commercial Center. They were later converted into condos and re-named Monterey Bay. My point is, these apartments that were in a "bad area" just so happened to be quietly tucked into the Las Vegas Country Club where there are also some very nice homes and where many wealthy people live. It was a very beautiful place to live that just so happened to be in a down trodden part of town.
So just because the crime map shows you that there may be a problem in that area, it does not always mean that the condo complex in question is going to be a nightmare. There are a lot of little pockets of nice spots in bad areas of Las Vegas that you would never know are there.
The area of Koval and Tropicana, more specifically the block around Tropicana, Koval/Reno, and Duke Ellington does not seem too bad to me. I take that little shortcut up Koval to avoid the intersection of Tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd all the time. I do not feel like that area is filthy or ridden with crime. It IS very commercialized and hectic, but not dangerous. I would not be uncomfortable walking around there at night. There may be more serious problems in the surrounding area of Koval and Harmon.
Indeed, a quick google search has shown this Onyx thing to be in bankruptcy so it might not even be worth thinking about.

I do agree that there are some nice places to live near or in the so-called bad area's. I've been to several. The surrounding area may not be good, but if you don't go out at night too often you should be relatively safe.
Best bet would be to move to an area where you feel safe day and night.

Probably not. Ohh you would hear them OK...but the high noise impact areas are at the takeoff end of runways. Only one strip is close and it is rarely used in the direction that would bother that location.
The big strip is a long ways away.
