There is a big difference between visiting an area for a few days and deciding to actually relocate into that area.

Before I sold the house in Ohio and moved 2000+ miles, I would fly out to Las Vegas and spend two months to see how you really like it on a day to day basis. There are any number of decent extended stay properties with rents under $1500 a month. If after two months, you are happy, make the move.

Being a corporate refugee in my eighth location in the past 30 years, it is hard to live away from home and have to commute home to every wedding, funeral, and special occasion.

Also remember that you are moving to an area with a transient population and no real sense of community.

Yes, I can imagine leaving family and friends behind sullies the waters. In my case, the friends have all moved off to their favorite retirement places and there is no family. Kids are grown and involved in their own lives and I've been taking care of myself alone for years.

Hey, if it works for you, great. There a whole lot worse places to live than in Summerlin.

My aunt moved to FL when they retired. Two weeks after they got there, my uncle died and the aunt was stranded alone in FL with the family back in Dayton. She ended up moving back.

The one advantage of LV is that you will always have a string of visitors.

My husband has terminal cancer so I'm prepared for anything. He might make it out to LV and he might not. He personally does not care to but it would be much easier for me if he can help me get out there. There are many bad days now so it remains to be seen. As far as visitors, I'm not even planning on having a spare room. My kids are both extremely wealthy and they don't bother coming around while I'm in town, I don't foresee any trips to see Mom when I'm that far away. My son is a corporate exec. who spends a great deal of time in LV and he might possibly stop by when in town and my daughter "might" also do that but there's no way either one would give up five star hotels to bed down at Mom's. My support base and friend base will be all local people I meet or those I already know who are there.

After spending hours reading these replies, I have come to the conclusion, Nevada is much better than North Royalton/Parma Ohio, our weather is rainy, cold, damp, and lots of snow, if we have three good months we are doing great. Nevada is warm, hot, hot, no snow, no potholes in the roads, what else can you ask for. We love the outdoors, both very active, love golf, hiking, a little gambling, not a show person at all, put we are people watchers. We love getting up early in Las Vegas and walking and meeting folks. Although most folk aren't as friendly, as when we took at trip to Mississippi last year. This is a new adventure, we are driving out and seeing the states, and our movers can catch up with us later. Thanks!

Hendersonbound? is on a distinguished road
Hello, all I am too thinking about moving to NV at the beginning of next summer if not sooner if that beautiful miracle job comes first. My thought was the same, but what I have found out researching my move that if you have a lot of things that you need to move the best way to go is through the POD service. If you don't then I would pack up the car and move it that way. It's a lot cheaper. As far as area, what I have picked out for myself and my two children is the Henderson area. I have done all my research online because I have never even visited NV before, I have a friend that moved there last summer and loves it! So good luck with your move and keep updating, and I will do the same, my first trip will be there is July

I did not think so, especially for my case, I live in a five bedroom house with a full basement and every inch of my house is filled, to be able to pack up as much as I want to take and not have to rent a truck or ship it it is well worth the money. Doing it yourself adds up, money for the gas for the uhaul and then come back for my van and pay again to drive and then the head ache of the 3 day trip. To me it may seem like it is a lot of money at first but on a second glance it is well worth the good night sleep.

Nevada has a great climate, but the unemployment rate is sky high in the state of Nevada. It's no place to go if you need a job.

I'd move to someplace like Texas, instead of Nevada low cost of living and better economy and it's warm there too.
