Bingo!

Has anyone tried buying a low priced property recently? Anything worthwhile is off the market within days... I fail to see the glut of abandoned homes

What is most likely to happen, as it has throughout history, is that the very rich people with all the cash, whom some believe caused the crisis on purpose for this reason, will buy up all the good properties for pennies on the dollar, and they will have flourishing businesses that they got for nothing. Prices will go up once again, jobs will suddenly appear, and we peons will be happy and never know what just happened. That's the story behind the 1929 crash, and it's the same now. He**, it was done in ancient Rome by the pazzo emperors.
