As some people said earlier, most neighborhoods close to the base are not ideal. I believe someone suggested Aliante. I think that's your best bet. It's a lovely community, and it's new construction. You may be able to rent a 3 bd, 2 1/2 bath, 2 story, 1700 sq. ft. for about 1500-1600/month. Someone else was pretty spot on when they estimated about 200-300/month in utilities.
Camino El Norte, north of Craig (as someone said earlier) is also not a bad choice. Both these places have easy access to the 215, which takes you straight to the base.

Camino Al Norte is just south of Aliante and is fine enough, you could just take Craig instead of 215...

Yeah, you can take Craig instead of 215, however, the traffic is horrendous!

Hey Military Family, be prepared to pay large deposits for the utilities. The main phone company is Embarq, but Cox and Vonage are available, as are several other small carriers. You can have your cable tv, phone, and internet service all from Cox cable if you want. I called them to see if I'd save money and it was no savings, plus I have phone jacks in every room. To use the cable phone service and have several phones they said I'd have to have a modem in every room; so I passed.

it's cheaper from Embarq to have satellite, phone, and internet than Cox

We actually have one of the lowest priced telephone services in the country with Embarq, which was Sprint, which was Centel, which was Central Telephone Service. Did you know that at one time it was a long distance call from Las Vegas to Henderson? Henderson was only 17,000 people and they had their own phone service.

They might not have to pay deposits on all the utilities. If they currently have utility service and made all their payments and are in good standing, they can sometimes not pay a deposit. I didn't have to pay the gas deposit or electric or the phone. But the cable socked it to me.

Thank you all for the input. In my research and talking with others who have lived down there I have found out and found it quite odd that the closer to the base you get the more unhealthy the neighborhood is. Keesler in Mississippi was similiar. But everywhere else I've seen has been totally oppisite.
As far as TV, Phone, and Internet is concerned, I will more then likely keep my DirecTV but I will have to find a new Phone/Internet provider. I currently use Qwest and they do not service down there. Im hoping there is a decent bundle service there either thru Cox or Embarq. Thanks for the heads up on my options down there.
Utilities dont seem too drastically bad. But I guess that all depends on how much I need to run the AC in that summer heat I get to grow so fond of!
As for rentals, im finding some real nices homes just south of the base in East Las Vegas that are running around $1100 a month for 3 bedrooms and 2 baths with a garage, also finding the same deals north of Craig Rd by a couple miles. How are them neighborhoods? I will definitley check into the Aliante area. Is that a town or a community? And what is the drive to the base like from there?
Once again thank you all for the input, it is well appreciated!
Thanks,
MilitaryFamilyUSAF

Go north not east. Aliante is one of the numerous communities along 215 to the north. Twenty to thirty minutes to Nellis depending on traffic.
Note that the schools around Aliante and similar are significantly better than the school on the base.

Keep in mind some places in Henderson too. Even though it seems far away, it's not a bad drive to work. I live near I-215 and Green Valley Pkwy, and it only takes 35 minutes to get to the base from there.
