Babysitter/activities?
I haven't lived here long...just under a year. My 12 yr old son is going to be here to visit 7/18-08/19...I have to work while he's here, I can't quit my job. I have arranged to change my schedule to midnights for most of this time (sucks for me but it will work out) I only need to figure out what I can do with him for 4 days while he's here and the hubs and I both will be at work. I can't afford much, any suggestions? Also any unique ideas for things we can do together besides the usual tourist sites? He's into skateboarding and video games (what 12yr olds aren't) We plan on visiting the many skate parks in town but what else on a limited budget?

I can't think of much that he'd be able to do without someone to drive him. So on the days that you're working, he'll probably have to just hang out around the house. Unless there's a fun park or something within walking distance of your home.
When you're not working and can provide transportation, there are lots of family options. Hiking up at Red Rock Canyon or Mount Charleston is fun and The Adventuredome at Circus Circus is usually pretty big with the kids.

Pinball Museum and 3 dollar movie theater at Pecos and Tropicana, that can provide cheap fun...

Before anyone can help you they need to know if those four days are weekdays, and what hours would he be alone? There are activities you can sign up for but you can't leave him alone for nine or ten hours. When I was that age I could go to movies by myself, or with my buds, but this is a more dangerous world.

Sorry for lack of info...it's 2 week days and 2 weekend days. His father is adament that he not be left alone at all. I agree only because he has never been left alone as his grandmother does not work and stays home with him all of the time. We plan on the usual hiking at Red Rock, the Adventure Dome, a weekend trip to 6 flags, museums. Not knowing many people here yet I can't just call up a baby sitter which I think he's a little too old for anyway. GRRRR!

did I violate any "laws of the land"? I've been here quite a few times before and read them, have they changed?

You might check with the YMCA on Durango which is actually a city park. So much for not mixing church and state...but it's all good. They have programs that look like fun. http://www.lasvegasymca.org/location...ns_durango.htm
And the city has Kids Kamp at various locations for $65 a week. My son went there when he was a kid and they swam all day among other things.
