LOL!

I wish it were lack of ambition.

Fact is, I honestly wasn't looking for low paying jobs until very recently and you are correct. There are a lot of jobs that pay from $6.50 to $8.50 available now. With minimum wage going up to $7.50, at least McDonald's wouldn't be such a bad option.

I had some money saved up. In all honesty, I was being somewhat picky. I'm not a teenager anymore. I'm 31 with a long career in A/V production. It's not easy to compromise yourself. Recession or not. If I got a job at McDonald’s, I would be throwing away everything I had worked for in the last 10 years. I know this sounds a bit pretentious but I think many people would understand what I was going through.

I do think you are exaggerating the availability of these hotel jobs. Many of those website listings are not real jobs. They are stockpiling resumes for later on.

It seems like this recession might be turning around with all these Help Wanted signs we're seeing around town, but with an 11% unemployment rate, I don't think it's as easy as you think!

Good luck!

YOu ever read the welcome to Las Vegas?

Welcome to Las Vegas

Take a look at clause 6...

6. When you get here get a job. Anything that is suited to keep your cash flow up and the eviction away. Then work for that dream job. Yes you may well have what it takes to prance in the chorus line, or pour at Pure or manage Echelon. But get yourself fed first.

We really meant it. It is a cruel thing really...but it is a real thing none the less.

Thanks everyone for your kind words!

That's a tough situation. I got the hell out. In a larger market you might have more opportunity, but more competition. Either way you are taking a gamble.

I'd have to disagree with anyone who says Vegas will rebound first, or any time soon at that. Vegas is still Vegas, which no other place can attest to, however the last few years have brought about huge growth in "vegas-esque" tribal and state owned casino's throughout the country. This was not the case during any prior recession. As such, Vegas will suffer for quite some time as people in other states decide to visit thier local casinos. Good luck in any case.

I agree with MR Hustle.......one of the MANY things that I do during my funfilled day, is to track Reservations in our hotel......in virtually EVERY segment of the hotel, we are noy out performing last years volume....GRANTED the rates are significantly lower then last yer....but the visitor volume is there....the rate rebound will follow.

i think if the short sale comes through that is your best option, because from what i have heard (cnn & other newscasts) anyplace in calif is just about as bad. are you a sound engineer or primarily videos? i know alot of artists in nashville are always looking for good people and oftentimes the crew members come from a different city and just travel to meet up with the tour. there may be some artists based in LV that you could possibly hook up with if you haven't already tried that route. they usually pay on a per show rate, but if you just had a few each month it would help pay your basic needs, as long as you don't have a mortgage. Good Luck!!!
