Red face This is scary.........Unemployment at 11.2%

Wow!!! How high is this number going to go? I am lucky that I have a job. I am concern about my neighbors. They are all on the cutting blocks. All have tons of years at their employment. All have been giving warning that if it doesn't improved soon, they will be cut.

What is happening to out city? I know it's bad everywhere but it seems to be worse in Vegas.

God bless us all.

I just do not see what you are saying. Nearly 90% of the people here have jobs. What is so bad about that?

An interesting problem...

It is not Nevada...it is most of the SW and West. CA leads the way. NV and Oregon and Washington also hit.

Interesting in that the diversified economies of CA and OR have done no better than NV.

AZ is the exception and appears to be taking far less damage. UT of course has its own unique demographics...but what is it they are doing right in AZ...

Probably worth looking at...

Just remember in the great depression unemployment went to 25%. That is when you really have a problem. As I said before, 9 out of 10 people have a job so there is no reason to panic or worry about your neighbors.

I think the real problem is that a lot of people out here just aren't employable in the current job market. In most cases, the companies that are hiring in the valley are looking for particular skills and backgrounds - skills and backgrounds that many of the people who are being laid off don't have. The remaining jobs are minimum wage grunt work jobs that people are too proud to take.

Real economist not rosey eyed ones are est. 12-13% for the nation. I would make a decent est. of 13-14% for Vegas...

Keep in mind that those are U3 numbers and not U6, which many feel is the true unemployment rate, numbers as well.

This is the highest unemployment rate in Nevada history, at least since records have been kept. This is a very serious situation.
