The second definition in the dictionary says, "A section or quarter in a European city to which Jews were formerly restricted." Then the 3rd is something that resembles the restriction or isolation of a city ghetto...(such as certain dead end or boring jobs).

So, yes you can find ghettos in Las Vegas if you're inclined to think that way. And I've heard the mythical Appalachia (there's no such place...it's a name made up by JFK in 1960) referred to as a ghetto, and I've heard Indian Reservations referred to as ghettos. Even the 24,000 square mile Navajo Reservation that sits in four states (Nevada isn't one of them but our reservations aren't well off economically either).

We do have at least two predominately black areas in the Valley, and a couple or three predominately Hispanic areas, but they aren't usually referred to as ghettos. So I'd hope I wouldn't get my undies in a bunch over nothing if I was black, Jewish, or Hispanic, or lived in a trailer park. We have some nice trailer parks, but some I've heard called ghettos even though they don't strictly fit the definition. BTW: I've never liked the name "white" trash...it implies that all persons of color must be trash, but only low life whites are singled out for that name. Nice is nice, and trash is trash. ¿Verdad? And most Las Vegans are nice.

There are a few shady lower income areas, but they only make up a small percentage of town (and they're not nearly as bad as the "ghettos" in other cities).

Lots of nice areas, lots of average areas. Just like any other city.

In the sense that the younger generation uses the word, Vegas is quite ghetto. Lots of hip hop culture, lots of kids with there pants down below their asses. Just ride the bus once or twice.

I never did get the pants down below the asses thing. I mean, can you imagine the first guy that started it...and the next guy who said "hey that looks cool...I'm gonna do that"?
