Hello,

I am currently living in a 1 bedroom apartment in a complex that I like. My lease just ended and I am "upgrading" to a 2 bedroom in the same complex, different building about 150 yards away from my present apartment.

I don't have the desire to rent a UHaul and make the move myself (since I'm going from a first floor to a 2nd floor apartment and don't want to deal with the stairs), so I'm going to hire movers to do it. As far as furniture goes, all I have to move is a couch, an exercise bike, a bookcase, a TV stand, a dining room table with 4 chairs, a queen size bed/mattress/boxspring/frame, a computer desk, and a dresser. In addition to that, there will be the normal boxes of belongings, dishes, cookware, etc.

It looks like I have two options. One is to hire movers with their own truck for about 75 an hour with a 2 hour ($150) minimum charge. The other is to hire movers with their own equipment (dollies, pads, etc.) but no truck for 40 an hour and have them walk the big stuff to the new apartment and then load my SUV up with boxes and move that stuff over that way when they are there to cut down on the time it would take them. Renting a UHaul myself isn't really an option since I don't want to drive it in the first place.

I guess I'm trying to figure out if it's reasonable to assume that with that amount of stuff, it would take 4 hours for the no truck movers to make the move.

Also, any moving company recommendations from anyone on this board? I am moving in zip code 89119 on Wednesday July 8th and haven't finalized the company I am using yet.

Thanks.

Are you in reasonable physical shape? It sounds as if you and a buddy (co-worker, etc.) could tackle the furniture in a few hours during the morning before it gets too hot and you could move the small stuff at your leisure. If it were me, I wouldn't hire a professional mover to do what sounds like a relatively small task. If I were in town, I'd offer to give you a hand for no charge as I need exercise.

If you don't have a friend or co-worker handy, maybe one of those temporary manual labor agencies could give you one or two workers for a few hours.
