Moving to Vegas in three months!!! A few questions???
What neighborhoods are closest to the strip that are safe and nice?
We are looking to buy a second home and may rent it out from time to time so we want it convient to the stirp and other things (shops, stores, etc)
How far away from the Strip is Henderson and Summerlin?
Also we will be driving there from Minnesota. Any must sees along the way?
Thanks for you help, this board is amazing!

If you wish to live close to the strip and safe and nice you pretty much need one of the high rise condos. They cost upward of $400 per square foot and have monthly HOA fees from $400 to $4000.
In general however if you buy such a place you would not drive from MN. you would fly first class if not in your own plane.
Now if you have more modest desires you might state them in terms that can be dealt with...

Henderson is about 10-15 miles from the strip depending on where in Henderson you live in. Summerlin is a little closer, maybe 7-10 miles.

Well, I do not own my own plane.
I did not mean close to the strip as in walking distance. Seven to ten miles is close enough.
Any other good neighborhoods close (less then twenty minutes) besides Henderson and Summerlin?
Thanks

Virtually all of Las Vegas is within a half hour of the strip in non rush hours. Very few are within a half hour in the rush and if 15 goes south maybe the south strip area or silverado ranch are left. .
You might be able to pick up a condo in the LVCC which meets your spec. That is very secure and is convenient to the strip. There are also some neighborhoods on the west side of 15 that would work. Spanish Oaks comes to mind. LVCC and Spanish Oaks would work well though likely with high HOA fees.
Other than those you can go anywhere in Summerlin or western Henderson.

I just went through the process of scouting neighborhoods. My criteria was to be close to the strip and not have neighbors on both sides of me and behind me.
I liked the SW areas the best from Spring Valley to Southern Highlands. I prefer west of the 15 although there were some places in silverado with 1/2 acre lots that were decent.
I hear 160 is a nightmare (dont know if thats true or not) so that ruled out Mountains Edge. I ended up just south of the 215, west of the 15 above warm springs.
It's more open desert than houses stacked on top of each other. I can get to the strip in 10 minutes.
When looking at places 7-10 miles from the strip check their access to the freeways. That can impact the length of time it takes you to get anywhere.

That area is actually a very good choice with two catches.
It is very heterogeneous...You can have anything from a 1.5 million mansion to a 150K kit house built next door. It does not go well with the Summerlin/GV folk...
It is difficult to secure...we live in such an area and make it work by never leaving the house vacant more than a few hours. Big dogs are often used.

When I first started looking around the bolded part of your reply is what I found very odd. There were standard 150k houses then BAM 4000 sq ft custom home.
The block I'm on is gated and there's a wall around the property. Not that it wold stop someone dead set on taking anything, it'll just make it harder.

I'll echo olecapts sentiments regarding silverado ranch. Sounds like the area you are looking for. Specifically zip 89123.

There are many areas in the Southwest that would seem to meet your criteria. I like Nevada Trails and Coronado Ranch, which are south of the 215 near Rainbow and Windmill. This area has easy access to the 215 and I-15, with plenty of retail nearby. A new library is planned for the area, too.
A little farther is north is Spring Valley, a bit older but generally a nice, middle-class area with very reasonably priced housing.
