Its not very nice. The portion where the real estate agent is photographed - that part of the story- makes Vegas and its real estate people seem a bit sleazy. This agent specializes in short sales and gives an example of - of all builldings Newport Lofts where a squatter got the locks changed and ransacked the place. It also talks about the agent encouraging people behind on the mortgages to just walk out and get a better deal - after she did.

Are people in Vegas really worse and less moral than anyone else? I hate to think so. Of course Ensign gets away with stuff - other places wouldn't tolerate. Who knows?

Just please tell me the RE agent was not an older gentleman with white hair and a white beard. It just wouldn't be right.

There is also a short video that goes with the Time Magazine article showing the realtor and journalist walking throught the Newport Loft unit and also breaking into a foreclosed home.

the article also stated that the Fountaineblue and the new tower at Caesar's is just a steel shell.. last i checked this was not the case at all unless of course i am looking at the wrong buildings... the only shell is the "echelon"...

Unfortunately...as shock-media loves to do so well...only the bad will be shown in an attempt to paint all of LV looking for the worse. Also, unfortunately, are the millions outside the area who will believe it as if it were fact...which will just encourage other media outlets to jump on the bandwagon.

Right...or wrong...this is going to cause negative backlash for the city of Las Vegas.

A typical TIME article from someone who again doesn't know the entire facts, and presents a one-sided inaccurate POS. Take the Neonopolis for example, why didn't he explain why it's empty instead of painting the picture of that the economy caused Neonopolis to have it's vacancy issues??? What do you expect from a wannabe blogger?

I do agree with one conclusion that the players may change but the game will stay the same. Many of the resorts/hotels/casinos will likely change ownership 3-4 times while the recession fades; however, you won't see dramatic changes for the city.

Glad to see that Time no longer employs fact checkers. It takes about 15 minutes to determin that Boemio has not been foreclosed and has never owned a home as nice as the one she is in...She owns a half interest in a place in Santa Barbara in Summerlin and is joint on a 280K house off Lake Mead in 89134. She does not appear to have ever been involved in a foreclosure though she does have some problems with liens.

And she used an FHA with 10% down to buy her place. Got 3% in closing costs. Sounds like she claimed to be a first time buyer.

We do see a torn up house once in a while but it has become pretty rare. In fact it is becoming hard to buy a place...certainly hard to buy a place cheaply...in the hard hit areas.

And this nonsense about $60K Persian rugs...how dumb is this reporter.

There are rip offs but that is not how it is done.

Sheesh...
