Hello Everyone,

I have been scanning the Las Vegas threads from afar, and need some advice.

I will be moving to Las Vegas to start a new job in November, and I am wondering if you have any ideas on where to find temporary housing.
I was thinking about renting a room from someone on Craigslist (could be shady), or finding a short term lease at an apartment.
I would like to get to know the city and the areas before buying, but I don't want a full year lease. Also, since I will still be paying my mortgage until my house sells, I would like to keep the rent (including utilities) between 500 - 1000 / month.

From what I understand it is a renters/buyers market. Correct? Am I overlooking something in my search?

Can't wait to arrive!

Thanks

Just you. No spouse or kidlets? You can easily get accomodations that are not terrible for $650 or $700 a month on a month to month.

You can also locate near where you are working... Set a spec and someone will point out a place.

If however you want a Starbucks, a good gym and a three star restaurant within walking distance it will cost a little more.

Just me for the temporary part. My fiance is finishing rotations until May.

I will be working in the Southwest part of the City near I-215 and Rainbow. However, correct me if I am wrong but there is not much in that area as far as housing/communities???

Ha...not necessarily the starbucks, but yes, food, activities, golf would be nice. Any decent developments between Summerlin and SW?

It is a little more complicated. You will have to live in a ways and commute out. But it will work fine.

Fair enough.

I guess the drive will be worth the ammenities. Are there any good parks in the Summerlin area in which to walk, bike, run? I know there are many golf courses there, but what about green space (well brown space) to walk a dog?

Thanks for the advice so far.

Try rent.com
check out maps ..
everything is fairly easy to get to
most major traffic is at the strip area
do not discount the small amount of rain ..
it makes the roads slick as there is never enough to wash away oil/grease/tar
It can also flood low areas in a NY minute .. rock doesn't drain well

I've bugged some of the above posters regarding similar questions; finally arrived in LV this morning. I rented a room at Sienna Suites, in South East, for 279 a week--maybe a little more than your budget but no worries about wacko roomies and the internet and long distance are free, which is a great asset for finding more permanent housing. Good luck

P.S.--I did a fair amount of looking and almost all the short-term stuff I could find is located either downtown or in the south and east--almost nothing in the north or due west.

If you're just looking for a temporary place to stay until you buy a house, try one of the suites places. There are several around town and you can rent by the week or the month and just walk away. No utility deposits either. Most don't take pets, if that is a concern. We lived at the Budget Suites at Lake Mead and Rancho while our house was being completed.

Wow...when I read "weekly rental" I was a little concerned about the area/safety. I checked out the Siena Suites and it is actually very nice....Thanks. However, it might be a little too big, as I am just bringing an SUV full of clothes/essentials for the time being.

Anyone know of any others, maybe studios similar to the Siena Suites? I like that it is furnished too.
