hello all
ive read this forum over the past couple of weeks and found it very informative, in fact some of my questions were answered w/o having to post.
i *may* be moving to lv in the short future, for an undetermined amount of time. its possible i will be transfered for my job, which could become permanent.
i would like to know this forum's opinions on both apartments and townhouse/condos near the airport. i would be working just west of mcarron intl a/p. i have noticed from a couple of real estate websites that there are actually quite a few th/condos on the market for well less than 100k. mostly 2b 1ba which would be fine with me. does anyone have any experience in this area recently? what kind of rent would i be looking at? i know with condos the HOA may be a problem, ie may not be viable b/c of too many vacancies etc.
i do not need many fancy bells and whistles, just a CLEAN place in a reasonably safe area. I have lived in the new orleans metro and dallas so i realize "safe" is a relative word.

I'm not sure what you mean by "close" to the airport, but if you don't mind a 15-20 minute drive, there are several places off of Las Vegas Blvd & Blue Diamond. Also, the Green Valley area in Henderson, is not too bad. There are places around Warm Springs, Windmill, etc. off of Eastern & that general area. Basically, I'd say go South, West or Southwest of the Airport. The further North and East you go in Vegas, the less desirable the neighborhood becomes. At this point, renting a house is a better option than an apartment. Apartments are actually more expensive in a lot of areas. We are renting a 1900 sq ft 3 br/2.5 bath home for $1350/month. You should easily be able to find a 2br/2ba house to rent for under $1000/month. Most apartments are about the same, but you won't have an attached garage for that price at most of them. I hope that helps! Another idea is to speak with a real estate agent. You can tell them what you are looking for and they do not charge you for finding a place. Happy hunting if you do end up moving here.
