I was a bit curious aspect. I lean more towards Vegas over Sacramento for the most part.
But the sheer mix of diversity in Sacramento - i.e. 16% Asian in particular - all those Asian restaurants and markets!
But whenever I'm in Vegas, it does appear very international, probably because of it's international status, I'm sure.
If anyone has more comments on all of that, more than welcome.
I think someone else mentioned the 2 hours from nowhere of Vegas....that is a plus, but I actually think Red Rock and Mt. Charleson are HUGE plusses and Death Valley even.

Do you know the breakdown of that 16% I seem to remember a big Philippine and Cambodian community when I was staying there for awhile.

A few advantages of Sacramento that would matter to me:
1) Two hours away from some of the best skiing in North America
2) Two hours away from one of the best spots for sailing/kiteboarding/windsurfing (an hour if you count Rio Vista)
3) Twenty minutes from a top-ten public university (ok, it's actually ranked 11th in 2009)

Which university is that? Forbes has CSU-Sac rated like 60 something.

Sacramento feels spread out because there are loads of suburbs, especially to the northeast and east. Sac City is relatively small.

UC Davis. I'm using US News & World Report's ratings. University of California has six of their campuses in the top 14 public schools, including the top two positions.

I'll just add this here, as I've been looking a lot into Sacramento (like a 3rd choice of mine) whereas Vegas was #1 or 2.
Anyways, one of the areas of Sacramento I liked (besides Midtown/Downtown which costs too much) was ELK GROVE - the housing amazingly looks a lot like Summerlin and Spring Valley or Southwest - basically all of the 2-story housing! Brand new as well.
But sounds like Elk Grove with all of the many foreclosures deterioated rapidly. Apparently what was a great new neighborhood dropped immensily in prices...making it very affordable for a more ghetto side of South Sacramento to move in there, and gang and robbery and everything else is now quite common.
I guess the reason I bring it up, is I wonder if any of Las Vegas' neighborhoods have been experiencing that or not...doesn't sound like it from reading here...but thought I'd inquire nontheless

Sactown has the Kings.
Vegas has the Kings owners.
