Single gay man moving to Vegas in a few months...
Hi, I am moving to Vegas in a few months and I was wondering if any of you out there could help shed some light on Vegas. Any information you can give me would be beneficial. Let me start first by saying that I am a single gay man in my mid 20's, moving here b/c of my job. What is the night life like out there? What is the area like? Are there areas that are more "gay-friendlier" than others? I have never been to the west coast before and I am looking forward to exploring it. How far is it from LA, San Fran, San Diego, Pheonix, etc., Also, what are good neighborhoods and bad? I've heard that North Las Vegas is a good place to move. I know I ask alot of questions, but I'm just trying to get as much information so I can at least prepare for the move. It's not for a few months away, but I like to plan ahead with stuff like this. Like I said before though, ANY tips you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

There are good and not so good areas all over Vegas. A good place to live is always an easy commute to work. In what area of town will you be working?
What amenities interest you? What do you want to be close to? What do you want to spend? If you are quiet and respectful of others, you will be welcome just about anywhere in Vegas. My gay friends say Vegas is a comfortable place to live.

Both of my roommates are gay. They like it here, and there are plenty of gay bars right by my house, namely good times and eagle. Vegas is 4 hours from LA, 5 hours from Phoenix. San Diego and San Fran are farther. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply! I'll be working on Nellis AFB, and I hear that the area around it is not that great. I'm looking for an apt to start out and later on maybe a house depending on how things go. I can probably go upwards of 800-ish a month, I'm looking to live where alot of singles live, I'm not sure how to describe it any other way.

Thanks for the info. That's good to hear, the distance doesn't sound to bad. Close enough for a weekend trip.

You know when I talked to people about moving to Vegas I did not feel compelled to tell them of my sexual prefrences. Wonder why you feel that is important?

Well, if you were a vegetarian would you go to an all you could eat steak buffet? Or would try and find something more suitable to your taste?

Help me out here folks....
What's the name of that subdivision literally right across the street from Nellis? All the streets have Hawaiian names and lots of people built observation decks for watching all the planes take off. I've seen some really nice 2br homes for rent in that little area with small yards and some with pools. If I worked at Nellis, I would at least check out that area.
Most of what you will find close to the base will be military families. If you want more nightlife something closer to downtown might suit you better.
Look at a map. Find Nellis Blvd. Going N will always take you to the base. It's a straight shot. I would look anywhere that's not too far from Nellis Blvd. Vegas isn't really as big as it looks. Across town isn't a huge big deal if you have alternate routes and plan in advance.

If my job transfered me to an all you can eat steak buffet and that is where I had to be I wouldn't worry about it.
He has to move with his job, so what does it matter what his sexual preference is? It doesn't change his move, is he looking for hookups? Is this a forum for that?

David, move here, you'll do great! Las Vegas is a place where no one really cares about your sexual orientation, we have many folks here who live the alternate lifestyle.
There are no "gay" areas, you can live anywhere with no problem. Working at Nellis, I'd choose Aliante in North Las Vegas (master planned community) or really, you don't have to limit yourself to North Las Vegas.
Single folks live all over, there is not one area where it's mostly "singles." You'll find families with kids and single people on the same block, so wherever you want to be is fine.
Best advice is to make a trip here first, see the base, drive a bit of distance out from the base (you are correct, the area around it is not good), get the Apartment Guide Magazine at any grocery store and start your hunt...in person.
Wherever you like, is going to be the right choice here in Las Vegas. You can only do that in person, not over the internet.
Much good luck to you...and WELCOME! You're gonna love it here!
